Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.Base pay rangeCA$90,206.00/yr - CA$98,662.00/yrUnder the general direction of leadership the Supervisor, Transit Operations is a first level leadership position with a focus on safety and oversight of transit services and provides direct oversight of Transit Operators, Hostlers, Shelter Maintenance Labourers, and Shelter Maintenance Technicians. This role is also responsible for providing customer service to the public, responding to all incidents, and carrying out other duties as required in the provision of transit service.Primary ResponsibilitiesEmployee DevelopmentOversees transit operations during shift, which includes verifying processes and procedures are consistently applied and that equipment and employee requirements are fulfilled. Ensures personnel are trained, certified, competent, and fit for duty on an ongoing basis. Leads, mentors, coordinates, and directs daily activities of Transit personnel, bringing any appropriate employment matters to the attention of the Assistant Manager, Transit Operations/Assistant Manager, Transit Planning, and/or delegate. Communicates information, processes, and requirements to Transit personnel in the field in person, over the phone, radio or via other transit technologies. Responsible for developing and ensuring the delivery of toolbox talks and safety meetings.Service DeliveryCoordinates and monitors the delivery of all transit operations to ensure services are provided in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Manages daily service changes on the road and responds to transportation requests, issues, and concerns. Responds to all incidents immediately and conducts incident investigations as required. Collects data and prepares daily summaries on all activities and escalates concerning operator and service‑related complaints and compliments. Performs routine foot patrols at terminals and other facilities. Responsible for scheduling Transit Operators in accordance with collective bargaining provisions. Maintains daily dispatch log and statistical information. Uses a variety of transit technologies to monitor route and employee performance.Departmental CoordinationEnsures compliance with rules, regulations, collective agreement, policies, and procedures. Ensures timely and accurate completion of reports and ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations. Coordinates with emergency services when required and responds to emergency activations from the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre.Skills RequirementsKnowledge of transit systems, fare structures, collective agreements, and operational policies and procedures.Good knowledge of workplace safety practices and of the transportation of mobility devices.Knowledge of radio and telephone equipment and radio communication procedures.Sound knowledge of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo service area with good knowledge of street names and major landmarks.Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and experience in dealing with public inquiries.Ability to empower people and navigate situations involving rapid change, shifting priorities, and/or simultaneous demands.Strong leadership skills with ability to take initiative and to provide guidance and support to team members.High level of professionalism, ability to be discreet and handle confidential information.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.Sound, practical judgement, and independent decision‑making skills.Knowledge of all equipment and processes used in transit operations.Good knowledge of computers with working knowledge in Windows and Microsoft Office.Ability to maintain effective working relationships.EducationHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.Completed course work in collision/incident investigation from a recognized institute is considered an asset.Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate is an asset.Completion of a defensive driving course is an asset.An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.ExperienceTwo (2) years of experience in a public transit operations environment.One (1) year of experience in a leadership role, with experience as a supervisor in a unionized environment considered an asset.Experience operating heavy equipment (Class 1, 2 or 3) and knowledge of National Safety Code Regulations considered an asset.Experience working in a public sector environment with unionized and non‑unionized employees considered an asset.Other RequirementsSubmission of a Criminal Record Check.A valid Class Five (5) Operator’s License is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.A valid Class Two (2) driver’s licence with Q endorsement is considered an asset.Must be willing to work outside in all conditions.Immunizations are strongly recommended for work in unsanitary conditions.Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.Ability to work a rotating shift that includes holidays, evening/night shift, and weekends.SafetyAs an employee of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, the incumbent is responsible and accountable for knowing and working in accordance with the Health and Safety Directive. This position is employed in a supervisory capacity.
