Senior Piping Designer

Calgary, Canada Polaris Engineering Ltd. Full time

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 3D piping modeling using CADWorx software
  • Generating piping isometrics using Isogen software
  • Plotting plans using AutoCAD software
  • Coordinating work with various disciplines (Civil, Piping, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Procurement, etc.)
  • Getting involved in planning and doing the layout for major installations
  • Ensuring that all work produced is in accordance with the company’s established standards and that the design complies with applicable engineering codes and practices
  • Designing and detailing new components from previous designs based on engineering instructions, government regulations, and regulatory codes
  • Within established limits, exercising independent judgment in the planning and organization of work methods
  • Conducting field visits and preparing as-built drawings
  • Assisting in more complicated elements as part of a project group
  • Assisting with engineering feasibility and cost studies
  • Producing dimensioned studies in order to produce bills of materials
  • Checking work of and assisting in training and mentoring of junior staff
  • Making specific recommendations on the utilization of new drafting techniques normally within an area of specialization

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8 or more years of related experience in an area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Thorough knowledge in the following areas:

1. Safety issues and codes

2. 2D and 3D software (AutoCAD / AutoPLANT / CADWORX)

3. Piping design and piping components

4. Piping material specifications

5. Piping design concepts

6. Piping supporting methods

7. Piping stress issues

8. Engineering standards, codes, and practices

9. Government regulations and regulatory codes

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A desire to be a strong team player and contributor in a dynamic, quality focused organization
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience in Plant 3D would be an asset
