Location Ottawa and Toronto – Hybrid; other Canadian locations – Remote About The Team Kinaxis is looking for a talented data engineer to work within the Machine Learning R&D team. The team is responsible for applying machine learning algorithms to develop intelligent supply chains. The uniqueness of the team is that it performs at the intersection of technology and real business problems. You will contribute to the product that delights customers worldwide. What you will do As a data engineer, you are passionate about shipping large‑scale software systems in a fast‑paced environment while balancing long‑term issues such as maintainability, scalability, and quality. You are an experienced software engineer who is passionate about delivering software that supports AI solutions. You have a strong understanding of cloud technologies, cloud‑agnostic architecture, and troubleshooting high‑scale solutions that are deployed and upgraded regularly. You have a passion for software reliability and understand how to ensure user needs are met through cross‑functional stakeholder engagement. You have a strong interest in resolving issues, designing effective troubleshooting methods, and influencing product development road‑maps to increase robustness, reduce troubleshooting costs, and shorten issue resolution time. You are fluent in SQL and Python, experienced with distributed computing, big data frameworks, Kubernetes and Docker, and building machine‑learning pipelines and models. You enjoy learning new technologies and adapting to change. You are a team player, quick starter, and problem solver who works well in a cross‑functional team, focusing on analyzing complex datasets, creating data models, and building ETL pipelines to develop scalable, data‑intensive machine‑learning software systems that deliver business‑critical value. What we are looking for BS or MS in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent work experience. Experience with data modelling, data streaming, data transformation, modern data stores, and building data pipelines (ETLs). Experience with data management and engineering in production systems. Strong customer orientation and understanding of the end‑user perspective. Ability to drive data discovery sessions with clients and carry out exploratory data analysis (EDA). Understanding of the ML modelling process, feature generation, training, hyper‑parameter tuning, and scoring. Strong software engineering skills and programming in Python, Pandas, and machine‑learning libraries. Proficiency in SQL – advanced window functions, aggregate functions, joins, etc. Experience with Kubernetes at scale, Docker, and big data frameworks. Proof of understanding of distributed computing architectures. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical terms to a non‑technical audience. Experience with Kubernetes ecosystem (Helm, Argo workflows, CI/CD). Experience with machine‑learning solutions and productisation. Nice To Have Data manipulation in Python – wrangling large datasets in Spark and Pandas dataframes. Supply‑chain domain knowledge – especially demand planning, CPG, and manufacturing aspects. Knowledge of drivers influencing demand (pricing, promotions, external factors such as weather patterns). Work With Impact Our platform directly helps companies power the world’s supply chains.
