Construction Technician

We currently have an opening for a Construction Technician - Civil Engineering, servicing projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Greater Niagara Area. This is a permanent full-time position. You will join the dynamic Water Division, working on multi-discipline design and construction projects for a variety of public and private sector clients. The role provides opportunities for advancement and career growth. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.Base pay range: CA$36.00/hr - CA$38.00/hrJob DetailsNumber of positions: 1Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week – overtime available)Location: Markham, OntarioResponsibilitiesOverseeing the construction of various engineering projects.Prepare construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.Engage in daily contract administration duties as well as site inspection duties to monitor contractor progress, workmanship, and conformance with contract documents.Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings.Assist in the bidding process of projects.Communicate regularly via progress reports with Associated Engineering, clients and contractor project teams.Serve as Associated Engineering’s representative in communications with the public and other stakeholders during the construction contract.Collaborate with your team and other disciplines and offices in a dynamic work environment.Comply with and work within COR-certified environment and perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.Our Commitment to YouExcellent benefits, including extended health and dental coverage and matching retirement programs.Disability and Life Insurance.Registered Pension Plan with matching contributions.Professional development opportunities, mentorship programs, and training.Support to obtain a professional designation through our MIT Program.Vibrant Young Professionals Group for new engineers and technicians.Flexible work environment with a mix of remote and in-office work.Competitive salary and benefits, including a fitness allowance and company-matching pension.Active Social Club for activities in and outside the office.Job RequirementsDiploma in Construction Engineering Technology / Construction Management or equivalent field from an accredited college (an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering is an asset).5+ years of progressive construction experience, including at least 1 year in water/wastewater treatment facilities.Experience with contract administration and on-site inspection principles, with at least 1 year in lump-sum contracts.Familiarity with local building/construction codes.Knowledge of construction contract interpretation and the Ontario Construction Act.Experience coordinating activities on a construction project, including liaising with Client, Contractors, Approvals Officers and the Public as required.Experience with preparing contract administration documents (agendas, minutes, daily logs, photo records, RFIs, testing reports, change orders, deficiency lists, construction certificates).Experience with project scheduling software for assessing progress against tendered schedules.Experience with bidding/tendering processes.Inspection and conformance of construction works with contract documents and engineering design.Experience interpreting specifications, plans, and regulations.Experience preparing engineering sketches, technical specifications, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation.Experience with start-up and commissioning of mechanical systems, and post-construction warranty services as part of a commissioning team.Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.Experience with AutoCAD, Primavera, or Microsoft Project schedule software.Demonstrated leadership and collaborative teamwork abilities.Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for company purposes.Registration with OACETT (as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist) is an asset.Associated Engineering will provide the right candidate with tools to develop their skills and career in Civil Engineering in a friendly and inclusive environment.If you have the right background and would like to join a Platinum Club Member of Canada's Best Managed Companies Program, please forward your resume and cover letter in confidence to hr-ont@ae.ca.
