A successful Manufacturing Lead Hand at Layfield requires strong leadership skills and the ability to foster a safe and collaborative work environment. They will be responsible for overseeing daily operations to ensure compliance with job requirements, safety standards, and production goals. They will also focus on team development, quality assurance, proper equipment usage, and efficient management of time and materials.This position will be based in the Edmonton, Alberta facility and will report to the Manufacturing Supervisor.Key ResponsibilitiesSafetyComply with all safety protocols, including proper PPE usage, adherence to instructions, and compliance with OH&S regulations and training requirements.Prepare the toolbox meeting topics, and ensure all topics discussed are documented on the toolbox meeting records.Encourage filling out of near miss paperwork and participates in incident investigations as required.Review risk assessment forms and give feedback to team members.Monitor that Shine Dashboards and 3S program are followed accordingly.Report any equipment or building damage & encourages team members to do so as well.QualityEnsure adherence and compliance with product specifications.Assist and coach operators in writing and submitting Non-Conformance Reports.Ensure all products produced have been inspected and are properly labeled and packaged before leaving the production floor.Ensure all quality records are completed and verified.ProductionAssist the assigned Operator with startup of the machine.Advanced troubleshooting of the equipment.Update the 3S dashboard and KPI area.Assist the Operator during shutdown/end of shift procedures.Ensure the production dashboards are completed accurately on a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis.Ensure all materials produced are received in inventory.Assist the Operator during shutdown/end of shift procedures.Make a positive contribution towards continuous improvement of teamwork and quality of workplace objectives.PeopleProvide support, guidance and mentorship to team members and ensure competency within their role. Ensure training packages are completed thoroughly and provide comments.Update the Progression System upon completion of Operator training and verifications.Training Operators to effectively meet demands while maintaining strict quality standards.Develop and implement continuous improvement on the floor through regular feedback, coaching, training and encouragement.Required Skills & KnowledgeSound knowledge of safety regulations surrounding equipment operation.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.High degree of competence in written and oral communication.Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment.Strong problem-solving skills.Knowledge of Quality Programs (ISO) and capable of applying information.Ability to lead and motivate teams by delivering effective training and coaching.Capable of delegating tasks strategically.Education & Experience3+ years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment.Post-secondary education, preferably as a Technologist/Technician.Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced environment.What does Layfield have to offer?Layfield is committed to investing in people and creating a dynamic, rewarding employment experience.
