Associate Specialist, Mining Research and Knowledge Mobilization

Position: Associate Specialist, Mining Research and Knowledge Mobilization Location: Hybrid – Work from WWF-Canada office in Thunder Bay, Ontario Department: Conservation – Wildlife & Industry Reporting to: Vice President, Wildlife & Industry Position Type: 1-Year Contract, Full-time Starting Salary: $52,200 – $59,100 annually (commensurate upon related experience and skills) Position Description The Associate Specialist, Mining Research & Knowledge Mobilization will support WWF-Canada’s work with industry, government, Indigenous communities, and civil society to reduce the impacts of mining on wildlife and habitat. Key Responsibilities Support research and knowledge gathering activities related to the ecological and social impacts of mineral exploration, the regulatory regime in Ontario, and industry-wide best practices for impact mitigation and responsible development through desktop research and analysis, and attending events. Support the development of materials and resources that mobilize research and knowledge to key audiences through the development of reports, infographics, policy briefs, presentations, and blog posts. Support the stewardship of partnerships with allied organizations, government departments, and First Nation communities and groups by coordinating and attending meetings, taking notes and reporting back on key developments. Support cross-team collaboration at WWF-Canada by coordinating and participating in both internal and external meetings and events concerning topics of importance for northern Ontario programming, identifying key opportunities across teams. Assist the Wildlife & Industry team, as required, with other related duties contributing to the mandate and successful operation of the department and organization. What We Are Looking For 1+ years of related experience in the natural resources sector, conservation, environmental management, mining or related industry, stakeholder and/or Indigenous engagement, and/or experience with on-the-ground community work. Post secondary education in a related area (e.g. mining, geology, natural resources or environmental management, environmental studies, geography, resource conservation, ecology), OR an additional relevant work experience. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Experience in desktop research and analysis. Excellent ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented manner. Excellent time and task management skills. Familiarity with First Nations Principles of OCAP, BC First Nations Data Governance Initiative, or other similar data sovereignty guidelines an asset. Other Information This is a one-year internship placement based out of Thunder Bay, Ontario. This role may require occasional local travel to attend various meetings and/or events.
