This position requires exceptional communication and customer service skills to provide a safe, welcoming environment while maintaining a strong security presence. Position Details Position: Full-Time Security GuardSite: Aberdeen HospitalHours: Rotational Shifts - 4 on 4 off, 12 hour shifts. Days and overnights.Payrate: $20.50 Key Responsibilities Operate and monitor AI-based weapon detection and access control systems at designated hospital entry points. Engage with patients, visitors, and staff in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner while conducting screening procedures. Respond to system alerts, conduct secondary screening when necessary, and elevate incidents according to NSHA security protocols. Provide clear directions, support, and reassurance to individuals passing through the access control process. Maintain accurate records of incidents, security breaches, and equipment performance. Collaborate with healthcare staff, security teams, and law enforcement partners as required. Uphold infection control and hospital safety policies while ensuring smooth traffic flow through entry points. Contribute to a culture of safety, respect, and inclusivity within the healthcare environment. Prerequisites & Qualifications Valid Security License (as per Nova Scotia regulations). Prior experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or access control (preferred). Strong verbal communication, conflict de-escalation, and customer service skills. Ability to operate advanced security technology, including AI-based detection systems. Standard First Aid & CPR certification (CSA Approved). Ability to remain calm, professional, and empathetic under pressure. Physically able to perform duties, including standing for extended periods and responding quickly to incidents. Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB). Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position. Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability.
