Our team in Canada is growing; we are currently recruiting for a Lead Marine Biologist to join our Environmental Planning and Ecology Business line based in our Burnaby office. About the role Designing and leading marine studies and preparing technical reports. Developing scopes of work, work breakdown structures, and budgets for proposals. Providing technical and regulatory expertise (provincial, territorial, and federal) for projects that interact with marine environments. Lead and participate in marine science programs, including fieldwork along coastal environments. Leading or coordinating components of regulatory approvals. Designing offset projects through collaborations with Ausenco’s engineers and community engagement professionals Managing projects, scopes of work, and budgets from proposals through to the delivery of quality reports. Managing or contributing at a leadership level to the compilation and writing of regulatory submissions. Reviewing others’ work and offering constructive feedback. Marketing Ausenco’s full range of services to existing and potential clients through your work and other business development opportunities. Liaising with clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous peoples. Mentoring junior and intermediate staff. Being a champion for safety and quality, every day. About you A university degree in biology or a related field. A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for a designation. 10 + years’ experience leading and conducting marine biology and/or ocean science programs. Demonstrated experience preparing, reviewing, and contributing to regulatory documents in British Columbia, including Environmental Assessment reports and Fisheries Act authorizations. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences with varying levels of scientific literacy, including clients, regulators, community members and other interested stakeholders. An advanced understanding of ecological methods and statistics and demonstrated experience interpreting complex datasets. Demonstrated working knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R) for ecological data analysis, visualization, and interpretation. Previous experience leading teams within a consultancy practice Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self-motivated and employ a strong work initiative.
