Program Summary CCH Camp Counsellor – Wrangler (Contract Position) Camp: Chief Hector YMCA (Exshaw, Alberta) Salary: $1,565.50 Semi‑Monthly or $3,131 Monthly Start Date: June 12th, 2026 End Date: August 28th, 2026 *Successful candidate must be 18 years of age or older. What qualifications are we looking for? Experience working with children to facilitate inclusion within outdoor based programs Experience leading and/or supervising staff members in outdoor programs Experience with conflict‑resolution within a workplace Experience working with people of all abilities and knowledge of fostering an inclusive community Excellent verbal and written communication skills Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search Three professional references What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary? Program Leads will provide leadership to staff and campers. They will contribute to the successful delivery of camp programs. Creating a support ratio of approximately 1 Program Lead or Coordinator per 6‑10 camper groups. Lower ratio for school seasons and Riveredge when counsellors are single staffed, higher ratio for summer season with double staffed counsellors. Duties and Responsibilities include; Overseeing the daily program for camp groups including making changes due to weather, availability and group situation Counsellor support and supervision Support of campers through behaviour management and parent / teacher contact Education and encouraging healthy behaviours in campers and staff, including measures put in place to reduce illness and injury, risk management, outdoor and community living, and physical skills and literacy Develop a team through training, supervising, and providing feedback, both positive and constructive to each staff member Provide leadership that ensures program quality, and the delivery of excellent service Effectively communicate and act as a liaison between staff and teachers and parents/guardians What qualities do we look for in YMCA Calgary Staff and Volunteers?
