Key responsibilities include building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets; managing inbound media inquiries; coordinating the Bank’s response to media and reputational issues; supporting teams across the Bank with the management of various media issues; overseeing media monitoring and analysis; ownership of communications plans and playbooks; and planning, developing, and delivering effective communication strategies to support Scotiabank’s enterprise-led initiatives and programs.ResponsibilitiesIs this role right for you? In this role, you will:Partner with customer-facing teams and other functions to provide expert advice, analysis and strategies to manage through challenging reputational issuesAct as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders and other communications teams across the bankDevelop strong media relationships and engage with both Canadian and international mediaAct as a corporate spokespersonBrief and manage internal stakeholders, including developing briefing notes on media issues and opportunitiesOversee production of a daily media summary and other reporting as needed, and manage vendor relationshipsAssist with news and social media monitoring to provide decision-makers with timely updates and analysis, and to proactively identify and manage breaking issuesSupport broader corporate communications initiatives, including policies, playbooks, financial reporting, investor days, annual general meetings, and awardsAssist in the development and execution of internal and external communication strategies and tactics, including positioning and key message development, stakeholder analysis, and coordination with other communications partners to advance strategic priorities and drive stakeholder engagementCoordinate the management and response to various media or reputational issues across the BankQualificationsSignificant, demonstrated media relations and issues management experienceSuperior written and oral presentation skillsComfort working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, with an ability to remain calm under pressureStrong organizational and project management skills, with meticulous attention to detailAbility to balance multiple priorities and work independentlyA high degree of comfort briefing, supporting, and engaging with senior executivesProven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with colleagues across a range of functionsAn ability to solve problems and work in a matrixed environmentDemonstrated flexibility and willingness to take on tasks outside of core responsibilitiesA commitment to curiosity, and professional and personal growthMinimum 8-10 years communications, media relations and issues management experience, preferably gained in an agency, government, or large multinational environmentPost-secondary degree in journalism, public relations or equivalent experienceAbility and willingness to work non-standard hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekendsFinancial services sector experience is an assetFluency in French and/or Spanish is an assetLocationLocation(s): Canada : Ontario : TorontoAbout ScotiabankScotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas.
