If you are ready to work in our fast paced environment in the capacity of Apatisiwin Employment Counsellor, submit your resume today Responsibilities The Apatisiwin Employment Counsellor will ensure the effective delivery of the Apatisiwin program such that urban Indigenous direct-service users gain education, experience, and skills to achieve and maintain meaningful employment. The Apatisiwin Employment Counsellor will work to identify eligible direct-service users and determine the supports needed to address employment barriers through direct-service user assessments and the development of an action plan. This position will have responsibility in four areas: Job and Education Placement On-the-Job Supports and Retention Qualifications Possess post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social service work, child and youth work or a combination of equivalent and relevant education. The candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience within a mental health and/or social service setting. Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma, family violence, Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach. Knowledge of Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy (IHWS), Ontario Mental Health Act, community health services and other related agencies. Ability to speak Cree and/or Ojibway an asset. Willingness to work flexible hours. First Aid/CPR, Food Handler’s Certificate, and WHMIS. Knowledge of the Friendship Centre movement, its aims and objectives. Ability to provide a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Check.
