Our client is a successful mid-size software company which fosters an amazing work environment and is located in the heart of downtown Toronto. They have engaged ROSS (www.getROSS.com) to help them recruit a Principal Engineer Lead. ROSS is a team of People Specialists helping companies align their People Strategy with their business growth. We provide remote or onsite HR and Recruitment solutions such as Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Recruitment Augmentation.This role is ideal for a strong architect that wants to be an integral part of the product delivery process or a very strong technical lead that wants to move into an architectural/technology leadership role. The successful candidate is expected to spend 50% of their time hands‑on keyboard writing code and the remaining 50% in technical and delivery leadership activities.Reports to:Chief Technology OfficerResponsibilities:Provide technical, architectural and product delivery leadership and mentoring to four Agile development teamsSupport product management/technology leadership in defining, sizing and prototyping new products by solving specific, challenging technical issues and related business problemsWork with Director of Software Engineering and Chief Technology Officer to drive definition of our client’s Technology RoadmapManage 2 principal engineers assigned to our client’s platform projectQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalentMinimum 10 years experience in software developmentExceptionally comfortable working in all tiers of a typical web applicationDeep understanding and experience with RDBMS, OO and SOAExperience working on multi‑tenant SaaS products is highly desired or deep experience working on complex web applicationsJava or Python development skills preferred, but .NET is acceptable.Experience with strong belief in continuous delivery and automated testingA strong working knowledge and belief in Agile developmentKnowledge of PCI, OWASP and e-commerce technologies is highly desirableSelf‑motivated, results‑oriented with strong desire and ability to learnExcellent communication, problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical skillsAbility to function effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative team environmentExperience managing small teams (2 to 5)Benefits & PerksCasual dress, every day of the weekBeer cart Fridays: free beer and snacksAwesome loft‑like workspace, with ping pong, foosball, lunch room and a rooftop patioFlexible work hoursTeam events: bowling, paintball, drinks, patio potluckGreat central location downtown, in the trendy Entertainment DistrictOpportunities to continuously challenge yourself, innovate and improveIf you’re not interested, but know someone who is, please help a current or former colleague in their career development by referring them.
