How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team The Supervisor, Accounting Services leads and coaches a team in maintaining and enhancing the coordination and delivery of a wide variety of financial services, ensuring accuracy as well as a high level of quality and adherence to policy and procedures. This role activates TRCA’s finance team as a strategic partner by embedding management accounting practices, elevating policy discipline and delivering the financial tools and insights divisions need to make timely informed decisions. Major Responsibilities Oversees and conducts quality control of all financial reporting and analysis ranging in complexity and variety of services Provides guidance and advice to the team on addressing applicable accounting services in accordance to legislation and policies Oversees and supports the teams delivery of finance and accounting training to TRCA staff Coordinates year end financial reporting and external audit documents with the Controller completing various analysis and working papers for TRCA and TRCF Contributes to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient financial processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology Escalates any complex or sensitive matters to the Controller Leads a team of staff and ensures that team members understand expectations; communicates schedule, tasks and discusses priorities of items Supports onboarding and provides on the job training and support as needed for individuals; also identifies any gaps in or potential improvement areas for training, development, process, resources, or procedures Ensures business processes are streamlined, documented and cascaded to team members. Ensures resources are in place to manage day-to-day workload, providing immediate supervisors with recommendations for budget/resource requirements to meet future workload and project needs What will you need to succeed Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses) Post-secondary diploma or degree in Finance, Business, Commerce, Accounting, or a related field Chartered Professional Accountant with CPA Ontario Experience 4+ years of experience in accounting 1+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies Expertise in financial data analysis, identifying trends, and solving complex accounting problems Demonstrated advance experience working with transactional services for all liabilities, assets, revenues and expenses, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations Strong working knowledge of financial management systems and best practices Strong judgement and discretion in the frequent handling of sensitive transactions Strong budget management and cost control skills; able to address variances and manage ongoing risks while managing multiple deadlines / work processes Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct) Specialized mathematical abilities; often pertaining to the field of study for the role (e.g., dispersion rates, correlation calculations, descriptive statistics) Effective problem-solving skills and leadership skills, including staff coaching and managing performance and working collaboratively with other divisions Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks as an ongoing challenge in a frequently fluctuating workload and multiple deadlines Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint; advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis, data visualization What TRCA has to offer you As part of a progressive team you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact to preserving and protecting nature, while maintaining a balance between the natural environment and built environment.
