The Role Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for an Accessibility Specialist (6 month contract) to join our User Experience (UX) team. The team is comprised of highly talented, enthusiastic individuals who ensure our services are available to internal and external customers. The Accessibility Specialist reports to the Accessibility Lead and works with product teams to build more accessible reading experiences through design, discovery, solution ideation, execution and delivery. You will perform accessibility assessments, collaborate with teams to find the best solutions, and provide actionable feedback. The Ideal Candidate Will Have Strong communication skills: ability to convey accessibility requirements and best practices to relevant audiences, listen to design and business stakeholders, and provide clear feedback and reporting. Consultancy ability: provide advice, guidance, and recommendations, propose methodologies and approaches to implementation. Technical understanding: knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG, AODA, EAA; ability to advocate for technical solutions, conduct detailed audits of websites and mobile apps, and confidence with assistive technologies. Testing skills: review requirements, define test conditions, identify issues and risks, analyze and report test activities and results. Required Skillset 3+ years of experience in web and/or mobile app accessibility. Experience testing with assistive technologies for desktop and mobile. Experience performing accessibility audits and building audit reports. Strong knowledge of accessibility standards like WCAG 2.x, WAI‑ARIA, EN 301 549. Understanding of HTML, CSS, and familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as React. Nice to Haves Familiarity with digital design software such as Figma. Familiarity with design system platforms such as Storybook. Experience with digital publishing or e‑commerce environments. Experience working in an Agile environment, managing iteration backlogs, and integrating into product development teams. Familiarity with international accessibility and disability regulations (e.g., AODA, EAA, ACA). About Rakuten Kobo Inc.
