Archivist – Contract position with posibility of renewal Department: Truth and Reconciliation, IRS and Miller Bay Project Location: Prince Rupert (Remote possibility) Reporting to: Lead Researcher The Lax Kw’alaams Band and the Truth and Reconciliation Department have an immediate opening for a contract full time Archivist to join the Truth and Reconciliation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Lead Researcher with managing the internal archive, identifying records, assessing record gaps, and processing of records into digital formats. They will join a passionate team that is committed to complete confidentiality regarding the materials investigated in the research. Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Manages and coordinates the appraisal, selection and acquisition of records Manages the processing and description of records Responsible for the cataloguing and creation of inventory Manages assessment of record gaps Identifies new record keeping and cataloguing possibility for the internal archive Establishes and implements best practice for cataloging and management of digital material in a new digital archive Creates, maintains and evaluates record descriptions and processing procedures protocols Supports the Lead Researcher in record identification from various archival institutions and private collections Supports the research team through performing occasional research tasks such as transcription, analysis and digitization of records. Qualifications: Education, Experience and Knowledge: Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Archival Studies or Library and Information Science 3 years or more experience as a digital archivist in a GLAM institution (galleries, libraries, archives, museums) a government ministry, municipal office, Indigenous government, community organization or religious institution Extensive knowledge of LAC RG10, RG18, RG28, RG2 collections and other federal departmental archives Extensive knowledge of historical records of Indigenous peoples, such as IRS records and treaty records Experience working with IRS record collection from religious institutions or federal records Experience working within the limitation and issues of privacy and access laws Experience with the NCTR AtoM database is a plus Experience in web design and online archives Experience with metadata standards and digital archival systems Compensation $35/h depending on experience 1 year contract with the possibility of renewal.
