Job TitleSenior Actuary, Enterprise ValuationOverviewAs a Senior Actuary, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by performing quarter-end calculations of balances within a GAAP accounting framework for the life insurance business. You’ll collaborate across business areas to provide insights and communicate GAAP net income impacts to key stakeholders on the GAAP Valuation team, which consists of five members including fellow actuaries and valuation professionals.ResponsibilitiesSupport the GAAP Director in managing the quarter-end deliverables through effective tracking, task delegation, and issue resolution using Azure DevOps.Lead and direct efforts to resolve issues with valuation runs.Perform quarterly calculations of GAAP balances for life insurance products (LFPB, DPL, DAC & URR, SOP 03-1, PFBL, PHAB, FAS133 reserves).Develop new solutions for ad-hoc/sensitivity analyses requested by other functional areas (e.g., reinsurance, plan, product design/pricing).Serve as a subject matter expert on GAAP and how GAAP balances for life insurance products are affected by changes in economic or business conditions.Perform analyses to educate senior management and other stakeholders on GAAP impacts and expectations.Foster the development of team members by providing coaching and training, and by giving regular feedback on work product.Ensure ongoing compliance of GAAP processes with internal and regulatory governance by performing model testing and developing documentation aligned with internal MRM requirements.Identify and pursue opportunities to improve GAAP metrics, analytics & insights for life insurance products.Provide support as needed for industry-wide GAAP working group projects and ad-hoc valuations and requests within the Valuation area.Tech & ToolsFIS Prophet, Alteryx, R, Tableau, Snowflake, MS OfficeExperience & Qualifications6+ years actuarial experience, with some background in a valuation function.Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, data science or related field.Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).Significant experience with actuarial modeling systems (e.g., Prophet).Familiarity with US GAAP reporting & requirements.Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written).Effective time management and multi-tasking abilities.What will make you stand outExperience with the mechanics of life insurance products.Effective and clear communication of results to senior management and other stakeholders.Experience with data analytics and visualization tools such as Alteryx, R and/or Tableau.Experience with data management tools such as Snowflake.Working For Pacific Life ReWe value the unique qualities each person brings and support their expertise and ambitions.
