Engineer, Distributed Energy Solutions – Alectra Inc. What You’ll Do Act as a primary resource for technical knowledge of energy generation and storage technologies including wind turbines, solar PV, natural gas generators, CHP, battery storage, geothermal, microgrids, etc. Provide technical analysis and preliminary conceptual design of energy solutions to support proposals in response to client RFPs. Prepare electrical design drawings such as site layouts, single‑line diagrams, protection & control diagrams, network diagrams, cable and conduit schedules. Perform steady‑state, dynamic and transient power‑systems studies (power flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc‑flash hazard, power quality, stability). Oversee project interconnection, including developing and submitting interconnection applications, reviewing studies, evaluating upgrade costs and negotiating agreements with ISOs and utilities. Review and provide technical inputs to customer and supplier agreements (PPA, MSA, ESA, EPC, LTSA). Provide technical oversight of EPC contractor teams through design and construction. Perform engineering due diligence on shop drawings, study reports and testing reports delivered by suppliers, contractors and consultants. Oversee commissioning and performance tests such as controller settings, grid synchronization and remote dispatch. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (business development, finance, legal, project management, procurement, construction, operations) to develop innovative energy solutions for Alectra’s clients. Monitor new technologies, industry trends, regulatory changes and ISO energy‑market rules that impact development and interconnection. Maintain strategic relationships with ISOs, utilities, suppliers, contractors and consultants. Participate in industry and government work groups and conferences to share knowledge and form partnerships. Other Duties Perform additional tasks as assigned to support operational objectives. Who You Are Education & Specialized Knowledge Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering (post‑graduate degree an asset). A registered Professional Engineer in Ontario in good standing. Deep technical knowledge of energy generation and storage technologies (wind, solar, natural gas, CHP, battery storage, geothermal, microgrids). Knowledge of electrical transmission, distribution and regulatory environment. Knowledge of industry standards such as IEEE, CSA, IEC, NERC, NESC, UL, NFPA. Working knowledge of software programs (CYME, ETAP, EASYPOWER, PSSE, PSCAD, PVsyst, AutoCAD). Experience Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering and interconnection of energy resources (wind, solar, natural gas, CHP, battery storage, microgrids). Significant experience preparing electrical drawings and performing power‑systems studies. Solid experience preparing and filing electric‑utility interconnection applications. Experience supporting energy‑project development through feasibility, design, construction, commissioning and operations. Skills / Abilities / Competencies Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills. Effective presentation and communication skills in formal settings. Proficiency in leading projects, managing budgets, strategic planning and proposal development. Proficiency in planning, prioritizing and executing multiple initiatives within established timelines. Proficiency in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Valid driver’s licence.
