Job Description Reporting to the Manager, Operations Facilities, the General Supervisor, Equipment Reliability directly oversees the consistent performance, maintenance, and optimization of welding, cutting and lifting equipment as well as other production equipment and tools critical to the operational success of the manufacturing processes. Acting as a subject‑matter expert on the tools used across various departments in the yard, this position will monitor, troubleshoot and implement preventive measures that contribute to minimizing tools and equipment downtime, improving efficiency and enhancing the overall reliability of the shipyard manufacturing processes. The General Supervisor will provide direction and guidance to the maintenance department and operations to support the implementation of innovative strategies aimed at enhancing the reliability of critical tools and equipment. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on‑site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC V7P 2R2. What You’ll Do Manage the implementation and rollout of the reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM) programs and strategies to improve the reliability and availability of equipment and assets. Conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) to identify the underlying causes of equipment failures and develop solutions to prevent future failures. Manage equipment maintenance and improvement projects, including the design and implementation of new equipment, modifications to existing equipment, and upgrades to existing systems. Recommend and implement preventive maintenance (PM) programs and procedures to reduce equipment downtime and improve equipment performance. Implement and maintain a comprehensive asset‑management system to track equipment performance and identify areas for improvement. Collaborate with engineers and technicians to devise strategies for improving tool and equipment reliability based on analysis. Design and execute training programs for maintenance and operations personnel to improve equipment reliability and maintenance effectiveness. Provide day‑to‑day guidance to operators and technicians on proper tool usage, maintenance protocols, and troubleshooting techniques. Manage and coordinate the work of multiple subcontractors and suppliers. Perform frequent on‑the‑job inspections to ensure safe working habits, safe work areas, quality of workmanship, effectiveness of maintenance, and repairs. Effectively manage and schedule a variety of mechanical and electrical maintenance. Report internally on work processes and status. Assist in determining work plans, sequences and schedules and may be required to assist in preparing estimates. Interpret work order specifications and manufacturing information, ensuring work orders are completed, keeping updated on standards and changes in plans, and provisioning materials in the case of unavailability. Allocate trades employees in accordance with schedule and priorities, assigning work to trade employees with the skill and ability to efficiently complete scheduled work. Conduct periodic audits of maintenance processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Monitor equipment performance and maintenance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Regularly inspect tools and equipment to identify early signs of wear, damage, or degradation. Collect data on tool performance, breakdowns, and maintenance history to identify patterns and trends. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and production staff, to identify tool‑related challenges and propose solutions. Collaborate closely with the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) department to integrate ergonomic design principles into the development and selection of tools, ensuring a safer and more comfortable work environment. Generate regular reports to track tool and equipment reliability metrics and provide insights to management. Foster a culture of cross‑departmental teamwork, combining expertise in reliability engineering and maintenance to address root causes of tools and equipment breakdowns and drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with the Seaspan Cybersecurity team to ensure operational technology (OT) devices in the shipyard are properly maintained and compliant with cybersecurity requirements, while promoting cybersecurity awareness within the operations team. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements related to tool reliability and maintenance. Required to be available for after hours, off‑shift and weekends on a rotational basis. Responsible for timekeeping administration and approval of direct and indirect reports. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or industrial), or a related field is required. Minimum 3 years of proven experience in a maintenance reliability engineering role. 2+ years’ supervisory experience in a union environment required. Strong knowledge of reliability‑centered maintenance (RCM) and preventive maintenance (PM) principles and practices. Thorough understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and associated criticality analysis used in Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA). Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy in documentation and reporting. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to non‑technical audiences. Experience with asset‑management systems and maintenance data analysis tools. Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred. Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma considered an asset.
