Postdoctoral Researcher in Detector Developments for High-energy Astroparticle PhysicsThe Laboratory for Extreme Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (LEMMA, https://www.queensu.ca/physics/lemma/ ) at Queen’s University at Kingston invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the detector developments for HELIX (High Energy Light Isotope eXperiment), a long-duration balloon experiment, and future cosmic-ray experiments. HELIX is a balloon-borne magnet spectrometer designed to measure cosmic-ray isotopes with energies higher than 0.1 GeV/n. It had a successful flight from Kiruna, Sweden, in the summer of 2024 and is refurbishing/developing detectors for future flights.The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the detector development, including testing, optimization, and calibration. A PhD in experimental astroparticle physics, high-energy particle physics, or a closely related field is required by the start of the appointment. Candidates should also have experience in particle detector development and data analysis, and an interest in the technology development for future detectors.Appointments are nominally for two years, with the possibility of a one-year renewal. The salary will be competitive with postdoctoral researcher positions in North America and commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. Applications will be reviewed starting on March 1st, 2026. The start date is the summer of 2026 and may be negotiable.LEMMA is participating in multi-messenger observations with the IceCube neutrino observatory and in detector development for future cosmic-ray and neutrino experiments. The successful candidate will participate in group discussions on multi-messenger high-energy astrophysics. The candidate will be expected to work closely with the local graduate and undergraduate students.
