Job Description:

Assist in the daily shift operations of the Engineering Department at Shangri-La, Toronto. Ensure the highest level of maintenance for guestrooms, equipment, public areas, and heart of house areas through supervisory direction of Engineering Colleagues. Maximize the balance between Guest, Colleague and Owner Satisfaction.

  1. Provide technical expertise and competence in areas of hotel engineering, facility, and building maintenance.
  2. Maintain positive internal and external relationships. Communicate with internal colleagues to advise on guest service needs, maintenance requirements, and concerns promptly and proactively.
  3. Ensure compliance with all hotel policies, standards, procedures, and practices.
  4. Manage energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs.
  5. Monitor and maintain inventory of departmental supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
  6. Prioritize and respond to all guest and internal maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.

Actively demonstrate teamwork, safe work practices, and open communication. Recruit & manage Engineering Colleagues effectively. Coordinate scheduling of Hotel Engineering team. Manage payroll and adhere to attendance procedures.

  1. Check the workmanship of all project-related works and activities to ensure quality according to Hotel standards.
  2. Ensure compliance with safety standards and checklist items in Work Authorization.
  3. Supervise work of Engineering colleagues and contractors in guestrooms for timely completion.
  4. Plan, organize, direct, control, and supervise in-house work and projects to ensure effectiveness, economy, and timeliness.
  5. Report any malpractices, non-conformances, and unusual occurrences. Conduct Corporate Audits.
  6. Summarize cost estimates for projects and work related to guestrooms.

Oversee all Engineering-related purchasing and procurement. Coordinate with relevant teams for related activities. Provide assistance during the Budget season.

Other Requirements:

Minimum 2 years previous work experience in a similar capacity within an international world-class hotel brand. Demonstrated understanding of luxury hotel service standards. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be eligible to work in Canada.
