Community Disability Worker, Full-time Day Hours Community Disability Worker, Full-time Day Hours role at Robin Hood Association Base pay range CA$17.44/hr - CA$21.56/hr Role: Community Disability Worker - Term Position Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM Role and Responsibilities Understand and practice all RHA Policies and Procedures, practices and operational protocols, including purpose statements, ethical standards and guidelines, restrictive procedures, abuse and medical protocols, Alberta Accommodation Standards, Alberta Health Services standards, Municipal Fire Standards, Service Quality Policy and Management System, Occupational Health & Safety Standards and HSMS, and Creating Excellence Together (CET) Standards and Accreditation. Adhere to RHA Code of Ethics. Professional conduct and appearance befitting a representative of RHA, including attendance, punctuality and conflict resolution. Work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Promote safe environments by regularly checking for and reporting hazards in the maintenance, design, and/or function of physical space; ensure safety of staff and individuals as hazards are identified. Be awake, aware, and vigilant during shifts, unless assigned to a sleep shift (and paid accordingly). Possess a minimal standard level of physical capability to meet job demands for safety of employees and individuals receiving service. Be available to work in any program area during staffing shortages or emergencies to support needs of individuals or programs. Specific responsibilities Implement individual service plans to support adults, youth and children with development, community support, behaviour management and/or personal care. Provide direct care and services as scheduled; communicate changes and absences to direct supervisor in advance. Assist individuals to participate in personal life planning, goal setting, and opportunities for personal growth within the community, following the individual’s and family’s leads as appropriate. Support the establishment and maintenance of respectful community relationships; encourage participation in employment, volunteering, recreation, life skills and other social activities. Be aware of the individual’s physical, social and recreational environments; minimize risks and maximize participation; refer complex situations to more experienced resources when appropriate. If working a sleep shift, be available to assist as needed; some individuals may require medications or toileting support. Understand community issues and help individuals access and participate in the community, including transportation training and support. Provide transportation to individuals in personal vehicles as required by program/individual needs. Model socially appropriate behaviors and help individuals build community connections. Work in the community to open doors and provide access/participation opportunities; explore alternative services as needed. Assist individuals to achieve personal goals through development of living skills, with attention to children’s academic skill development where applicable. Assist individuals with home living skills and, when required, participate in the care and maintenance of living environments. Assist with the direct care of high-needs or medically fragile individuals, as required. Maintain clear records and prepare required reports and documentation. Communicate professionally and respectfully with individuals, families, guardians, staff, and community representatives. Implement recommendations from Supervisors, Professionals and Resource Team. Respect individual rights and responsibilities. Encourage good nutrition, implement dietary plans, monitor breaks, and maintain cleanliness and sanitation. Assist with orientation of new individuals and families, including completing required checklists. Identify, analyze, resolve and report issues of concern to a supervisor as needed. Engage in personal skill development through training and courses. Use effective communication methods; read body language, non-verbal cues, and practice active listening. Provide orientation and feedback to relief staff, volunteers, and practicum students. Participate in team and general meetings; contribute to evaluations of practicum students and volunteers. Recommend changes to Policies and Procedures. May take on additional responsibilities as needed, as determined by Supervisor, Program Manager or Director. Qualifications and Education Requirements Post-Secondary Preferred Foundations in Community Rehabilitation and Disabilities Studies Completion of Mandatory Training Courses and Designated Mandatory Training as required Basic coaching and mentoring skills with varied approaches Effective communication skills Effective time management and ability to balance competing demands and priorities; know when to ask for assistance or refer to more experienced staff Ability to work various shift schedules and in physically/emotionally challenging situations, if required Positive attitude and mature work ethic; ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to set priorities and complete tasks in a timely fashion Preferred Skills Demonstrate willingness to learn and be flexible; work as part of an effective team Exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to receive and provide feedback Strong computer, organization, and communication skills Seniority level Entry level Employment type Full-time Job function Other Industries Civic and Social Organizations Referrals increase your chances of interviewing at Robin Hood Association. #J-18808-Ljbffr
