The Equity Research department covers close to 900 stocks across diverse sectors.We are currently searching for an associate to join our team, covering Metals and Mining, and based in our Toronto office (this is an in-office and not a remote or hybrid role).DescriptionConduct thorough financial analysis of publicly traded companies within metals and mining.Assist senior analyst in conducting comprehensive industry and company analysis.Develop and maintain financial models to forecast company performance.Analyze financial statements, market data, and industry trends.Prepare detailed research reports, presentations, and investment recommendations.Monitor news, earnings releases, and other relevant information for covered companies and industries.Attend company earnings calls, conferences, and industry events.Develop, work with and maintain large data files of financial and industry data.Engage with sales, trading, and investment clients.Ensure compliance with all regulatory and firm policies.Experience / SkillsMinimum of 3 years of relevant experience in industry and/or finance, preference given to those who have worked in metals and mining.Strong analytical and quantitative skills.Expert proficiency in Excel, including experience with pivot tables, VBA macros, and handling large legacy files, is required. Knowledge of Python for data wrangling is a plus.Proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.Superior work ethic, self‑motivated and the ability to work independently.Ability to systematically manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines.Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours.A keen interest in Equity Research and metals and mining.Solid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg.EducationPost‑secondary degree in a related field of study, preferably geology or engineering.Preference given to candidates with Master’s degrees, CPA/CA and/or CFA charter‑holders or those pursuing.SalaryThe salary range for this role is $110,000 up to $120,000 CAD (subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements).BenefitsBMO also offers health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
