Chief Estimator

East Elgin Concrete Forming (EECF) is based in Tillsonburg Ontario servicing the Civil, Marine, Industrial, Residential and Structural Concrete sectors of Ontario’s construction industry.

The Chief Estimator is responsible for overseeing the estimating department, reviewing proposals, and prioritizing bid opportunities. The successful candidate will have advanced communication and collaborative skills working with other department leads to improve project success.

As a Chief Estimator you will:
• Encourage and instill coaching and mentoring skills to the estimating team.
• Oversee all estimates, including detailed review of others’ work.
• Complete project scope of work reviews to ensure completeness of estimates, and that all technical specifications, and subcontractor scopes are met.
• Propose and approve project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project opportunities and cost savings.
• Propose and approve potential bid strategies, constructability requirements, and advantages or innovations to increase bidding success.
• Provide leadership for the estimating team on major complex projects.
• Build effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. • Meet with clients, joint venture partners, consultants, and pre-tender groups.
• Perform quantity, material, and labor take-offs from drawings and related documents.
• Responsible for maintaining large working files as supporting documentation for estimating figures including current, accurate information on process for vendors, marketing material, pre-existing price list, cost databases etc.

Is this the right role for you?
• Degree or Diploma in engineering or construction management or trade experience or equivalent.
• Gold Seal certification in estimating is an asset.
• Knowledge and understanding of different construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines.
• Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
• Ability to lead successful teams.
• Resourceful and self-motivated with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
• Strong ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with contractors, peers, and industry representatives, and leverage the industry relationships for a competitive advantage.
• Understanding subcontracts, sub-subcontracts, purchase orders, etc. to limit risk exposure.
