YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS CONSTRUCTION SAFETY OFFICER:
  1. Develop and implement safety programs/policies for construction projects.
  2. Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  3. Collaborate across departments to promote proactive safety/risk management.
  4. Provide guidance and support to project teams in the development of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
  5. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses; develop and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  6. Stay informed about industry regulations and best practices, ensuring company compliance and continuous improvement in safety protocols.
  7. Facilitate safe work training programs for employees and subcontractors.
  8. Maintain documentation and records related to safety activities, including incident reports, inspections, and training records.
  9. Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities to address safety-related matters and participate in relevant industry forums or associations.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CONSTRUCTION SAFETY OFFICER:
  • 3+ years in a similar role within heavy construction
  • COR certification is mandatory; demonstrated knowledge of construction safety regulations and industry best practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees of all levels
  • Ability to confidently lead safety training programs
  • Solid computer skills; proficiency with spreadsheet software
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; a proactive approach to risk management
  • Familiarity with incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to construction sites
