Responsibilities of the engineer performing this role include setting the technical direction for the overall project and acting as a technical interface point to both internal and external customers. The Mechanical Equipment Engineering department largely focuses on the design of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors. The Mechanical Equipment Engineering group focuses on the design, development and test of mechanical equipment for automated and semi-automated fueling machines, medical isotope systems, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling for nuclear reactors and related systems. This includes but not limited to concept design, detailed design, design calculations, assessments, studies, technical document preparation and manufacturing, test, commissioning, maintenance and operational support.Provide execution of, and lead, design/analysis/test/commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.Preparation, approval or leading of design documentation (including technical documents, drawings and BOMs), technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations.Preparing and verifying 3D modelling for purposes of conceptual design, and performing stress analysis.Application and leading of design for manufacturability/assembly (DFMA) techniques.Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning and Service personnel.Participation in, and lead, internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.Prepare and/or verify project level deliverables including but not limited to evaluations, reports, and assessments.Key success factors are engineering and product excellence, effective design activity management, task/milestone completion on-time/on-budget, producing defect free designs, meeting your metrics, motivating a diverse team, managing and achieving results through influencing and setting of expectations/actions.Leading by example, assure compliance and adherence to processes (including internal Business Management System), industry codes and standards, quality systems, policy, and contractual requirements.Report on status, issues/solutions, improvements, escalate resource needs as requiredContribute to process change through process enhancement, and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and product deployment.Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment. This position requires consistent interaction with external customers, subcontractors, and cross functional internal teams.Take an active role and responsibility in driving proposal development and review including scope review and estimate preparation as well as technical and product presentations to the customer. May be assigned Proposal Estimate Lead (PEL) roles as required.Proactively identify project risks, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate these to the leadership team.Provide technical direction/decisions and oversight of design activities including, technical review and verification of documentation and/or drawings, as applicable.Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.Short term travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients and stakeholdersQualifications/Requirements:B.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.Holds or working towards a current PEO license.Typically requires 7 years’ experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated and process based design.Demonstrated ability with supporting leadership on complex and general engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles.Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies.Exposure with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities; systems design, requirements development, interface design, manufacturing and testing.Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: systems, I&C, software design and manufacturing.Desired Characteristics:Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.Competency in machine design.WHY JOIN BWXT?:Work within the growing and exciting nuclear industry as well as with talented and collaborative teamsCompetitive salariesEmployer-paid pension planProfit sharing planBonus planCompetitive Health and Dental benefitsEducational Refund ProgramLife insurance… and so much moreWe thank you for your interest, however, only those candidates under consideration will be contacted.The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $71,000 and $106,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
