OverviewThe Island Health Department of Psychiatry is offering a full‑time Psychiatrist position in Parksville. The role is based in the Oceanside Health Centre, where an interdisciplinary team of physicians, allied health, and community providers deliver care to the communities of Parksville and Qualicum Beach. Responsibilities include outpatient consultation for patients, families, and primary care physicians, as well as community service attachment to mental health and substance use teams.ResponsibilitiesProvide clinical consultation to patients, their families/caregivers, primary care physicians and other health professionals in an outpatient setting.Offer coverage as needed and be available to registered outpatients.Serve community mental health and substance use teams, including rehabilitation support and case management for adults.Deliver psychiatric clinical services for primary care referrals.Attend departmental and multidisciplinary meetings.Manage a caseload of approximately 240‑300 clients per 0.1 FTE, seeing new clients weekly, discharging community patients, and receiving discharges from ED, inpatient units, and community physician referrals.Evaluate and treat a full scope of psychiatric disorders, including mood, psychotic, anxiety, substance use, OCD, PTSD, personality, ADHD, ASD, eating, adjustment, somatic/functional, brain injury, neurological disorders, and psychiatric aspects of medical conditions.Start DateAs soon as possible.Compensation and BenefitsCompensation Type: Fee‑for‑ServiceSalary: Base fee of $7,159.68 with a fee premium of 4.62%.Recruitment Incentive: Up to $10,000 (pro‑rated based on FTE).Relocation Funding: Up to $15,000 (amount based on the location one is relocating from).Continuing Medical Education (CME) Support: $3,000 per annum for years 3–4, $6,000 per annum after 4 years.Other Benefits: Furnished office space, computer, telephone and administrative support provided.Additional Remuneration: May be eligible for further remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA).Link for RSA Points Guide: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/health/practitioner-pro/rrp_points.pdfCommunity InformationParksville and Qualicum are picturesque seaside communities on the east side of central Vancouver Island, with a combined population of about 48,000. They offer a temperate climate, expansive sandy beaches, and easy access to recreational activities. The major centers of Nanaimo and Victoria are readily accessible via the Island Parkway, with regular ferry, air, and float‑plane services from Nanaimo, allowing convenient travel to Vancouver.The region’s healthcare infrastructure includes Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with 224 acute care beds and a 24‑bed inpatient psychiatry unit. In September 2012 a new Emergency Department opened, featuring a 4‑bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a busy Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES).
