The Opportunity

A key part of the team, Gradient has an immediate opening for a Sr. Embedded System Developer, in our engineering department. This critical, hands-on role effectively drives the delivery of continuous product improvement of Gradient’s high-efficiency heating products to the high-quality standard we commit to our customers. As a member of the growing business, contribution to the efficiency and innovation culture is essential. The right candidate for this position will be a highly motivated, and a self-starter ready to roll-up their sleeves and take on a variety of activities to advance and grow with the business, with an entrepreneurial mindset.

GENERAL DUTIES:

· Architecture design, development, build and testing of HVAC control systems related to Gradient new and existing products.

· Experience working in multiple developer environment and using GitHub for version control.

· Coordinate with project stakeholders to develop, implement, and maintain systems

· Define project objectives and select the most appropriate path or plan to satisfy objectives.

· Defining, estimating, and planning project tasks, resources, timelines, and milestones.

· Developing and implementing a project management and implementation strategy.

· Developing, maintaining, executing, and monitoring project plans.

· Strong ability to define and manage project scope.

· Managing the project communication and reporting process via status reports, meetings, and other methods, as required for monitoring and accountability purposes.

· Embedded system software design including;

  • Programming and debugging prototype electronics hardware.
  • Programming in C, C+ and in an RTOS architecture.
  • Programming in scripting languages such as python, MATLAB, Bash, C#

· Usage of communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, Bluetooth, Modems, CANbus/Modbus etc.

· Support hardware component selection such as microcontrollers, sensors, communication protocols.

· Define build, testing, quality control processes.

· Identify, troubleshoot and resolve assembly, programming, testing and related issues.

· Test, debug and verification of products throughout the assembly process, including sub-assemblies and finished goods.

· Support innovation, new product or service development and continuous improvement.

· Assist in root-cause analysis.

· Work to good industry standards.

· Accurate data collection and recording.

· Maintain a clean and organized work environment and contribute to a lean culture through participation in ideas and initiatives.

· Take on various other activities as assigned to advance and grow with the business, with an entrepreneurial and owner’s mindset.

· Promote, maintain, and model a safety culture, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

· Dedication to customer service through timely completion of responsibilities and unwavering commitment to quality.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· 5+ years’ embedded systems / firmware development in a production setting

· 2+ years’ experience as a Project Manager in an electronics development environment.

· BSc. or diploma in Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Mechatronics or Software Engineering

· Ability to design and develop control architectures

· Experience implementing real-time feedback controls such as PID in production environments

· Experience with benchmarking and optimizing algorithms for real-time OS

· Experience building and testing control systems

· Programming and debugging prototype electronics hardware.

· Displays strong acumen in design, quality and process improvement.

· Detail-oriented with strong organization and prioritization skills.

· Good written and verbal communication abilities.

· A strong team player who can collaborate to create value and has the willingness and acumen to grow with the company.

· Customer driven and laser-focused on delivering value.

· Entrepreneurial, willing to bring an owner’s-mindset to activities.

· Leads by example.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:

· PCB hardware design

· Experience with HVAC, gas equipment and plumbing are all considered assets.

· IT support with Microsoft Suite experience an asset
