Job Title: Director/CuratorInstitution/Organization: Old Log Church MuseumLocation: Whitehorse, YukonStart Date of Position: TBDSalary: $55,575Job Description:The Yukon Church Heritage Society (YCHS) is seeking applicants for the position of Director/Curator for the Old Log Church Museum. The OLCM is a small, community museum which documents, preserves, and shares Yukon history, particularly focusing on the Anglican Church in the Yukon. The permanent collection of the OLCM has 5000+ objects, ranging from archival materials to ecclesiastical vestments and artifacts.As the only full‑time employee, the Director/Curator works collaboratively with the Board of Directors to provide leadership and management to advance the mandate, vision, values, and strategic directions of the museum. The main responsibilities of the position include: Overseeing the display, storage, security, preservation, and maintenance of the collection and keeping clear and accurate records. Managing projects related to researching, curating, and presenting exhibitions. Documenting and monitoring environmental conditions in display and storage areas. Recruiting, training, and supervising summer students. Supporting the implementation of educational and public programming activities. Assisting with research enquiries from outside agencies and the public. Working to enhance the standing of the museum through collaboration with the local arts and heritage community, business partners, and the public. Writing grants for municipal, territorial and federal government funding as required. Developing policies and procedures as required. Creating strategies for new business opportunities and to engage new audiences. Maintaining a strong, positive working relationship with the YCHS Board (non-profit) and attending monthly meetings, providing status reports and updates, and participating in strategic planning discussions. Meeting annual budgetary and operation targets and objectives by monitoring attendance and revenues and by developing short and long‑term strategies for new revenue streams. Qualifications Post‑secondary education in Museum Studies, Museum Management, Curatorial Studies; or post‑secondary work in a related field plus a secondary degree or coursework in museum studies. A minimum of 1 to 2 years of professional experience in the cultural heritage field. A sound knowledge of Canadian museum standards, ethical practices, policies and procedures. Strong administrative skills, including some bookkeeping and payroll, Adobe, WordPress, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of museum database software (Collective Access). Experience using social media platforms as marketing and advertising tools. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. Experience writing grant applications, project management and/or executing fundraising activities. Experience organizing, creating, and delivering interpretive programming. Willingness to engage actively with the media, board members, other museum/heritage groups, educational institutions, and museum visitors. Experience working collaboratively with First Nations communities, particularly in heritage and community‑based projects. A willingness to participate in professional development opportunities. Candidates should be able to work independently and be able to handle competing priorities, while paying attention to detail and accuracy.A knowledge of Yukon and/or Yukon Anglican Church History is considered an asset, as are memberships to museum associations (CMA, OMA, AMA, etc.) Some supervisory experience would also be beneficial.
