JOB DESCRIPTION :

Reporting to our Controller, the Senior Credit Specialist will be working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment as a part of our Accounting Team. Our Senior Credit Specialist is responsible for applying payments to customer accounts, contacting customers for collection on past due invoices, and assessing and approving credit worthiness of our customer base.

In collaboration with the Accounting, Customer Service, and Sales teams, the Senior Credit Specialist will resolve past due balances, investigate, and issue credits for billing issues, and maintain accurate credit and collection files for all customers.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

Review new credit account applications, access credit risk, and approve or decline credit accounts in accordance with company policies and terms. Set up New Customer Accounts.
Conduct credit investigations on new and existing customers to establish and adjust credit limits based on customer requirements using D&B Ratings and by checking customers and applicants trade and bank references. For orders exceeding the credit threshold, submit requests to obtain receivable insurance via the on-line system.
Monitor monthly customer balances on all active customers and report on medium to high-risk accounts and delinquent accounts.
Maintain a polite and flexible stance, to the extent possible, to win the respect and trust of our clients.
Escalate high risk accounts or claims and discrepancies that may affect the financial results to senior management as appropriate.
Ensure corporate credit policies are followed. Proactively identify gaps and mitigate risk in the credit processes.
Maintain accurate credit and collection files and electronic collection notes for each customer account.
Review daily, the credit hold report to verify the credit standing prior to releasing shipments. Ensure a pro-active release or resolution of orders on hold to optimize production and customer delivery.
Reconcile and maintain customer accounts, resolve billing/pricing discrepancies, unearned/earned discount, unapplied and/or short payments.
Process credit memos for freight-damaged, warranty, commissions, pricing, as needed.
Review and reconcile accounts receivable reports on a regular basis.
Monitor credit queue and respond when customers are placed on credit hold to release or deny orders.
Investigate and resolve customer disputes by working with our sales team, management, and customers.
Conduct collection activities while maintaining positive customer relationships.
Prepare delinquent accounts for third-party collection and bad debt write-offs.
Work with stakeholders to continuously improve processes. Document processes and identify key controls to ensure that controls are working effectively, and exceptions are corrected in a timely manner.
Possess strong system knowledge and subject matter expertise to engage in automation projects, staff training and problem resolution.
Mentor and develop an Accounting Clerk through coaching and cross training.
Perform other duties as assigned.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Must have 8 + years of related experience.
Post-secondary diploma/degree or Credit Institute of Canada. CPP Program Certification preferred.
Working knowledge of ERP system, MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and relevant software applications.
Must possess a willingness to provide a very high level of quality customer service both internally and externally in a positive and professional manner.
Self-starter with the ability to identify and escalate issues accordingly and appropriately.
Strong communication skills: verbal, written, and presentation.
Proven coach and mentor with the ability to share industry trends and risk mitigation techniques.
Highly analytical, particularly related to credit policies, A/R management, and Financial Statements.
Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities; critical thinking.
Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Highly effective Team Player with the ability to communicate with all audiences.
