Bayshore HealthCare’s Northern Nursing program has provided high-quality community health relief staffing services to Indigenous and Northern communities since 1997. Our Nurse Practitioners experience exciting assignments in Northern Canada's isolated, semi-isolated, and remote areas. Work closely with diverse Indigenous communities providing care to community members in Canada’s remote Northern communities of Nunavut.

The work you will do:

As an NP in isolated, semi-isolated and remote communities in Northern Canada you will practice autonomously providing primary care to patients and families. All ages practice is required from diagnosing & treating illnesses, to prescribing medications, sending referrals and performing medical procedures for your patients. You will provide professional nursing care and community health services to patients (individuals, families, and groups) on a routine and emergency basis to promote a healthy lifestyle, to prevent and/or reduce incidence of disease, disability, and death, to support rehabilitation and to restore health and palliation.

NPs on our team will treat the whole person with an approach that includes addressing needs relating to an adult or child’s physical and mental health, gathering medical history, focusing on how an illness affects their life and family, offering information and education encouraging a healthy life.

Participation with community members and collaboration with the primary care team and supporting agencies to develop and implement a variety of programs to address patient and community needs will be required to promote health and well-being and to meet identified areas of health care concerns which may include the provision of programs such as: adult health clinics, pre and post-natal clinics, school health programs, chronic disease clinics, immunization programs and communicable disease surveillance.

Your average assignment durations vary from 4 to 6 weeks.

Job Qualification

Who You Are:

You are a graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and have a nursing license and a Nurse Practitioner Specialization through a Canadian provincial governing body in good standing
You have or are willing to obtain a regulatory license with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN)
You have at minimum 30 weeks, defined as 1125 regular working hours of experience as a Nurse Practitioner within the past four years OR 12 weeks, defined as 450 regular working hours of experience, within the past one year, working in remote, isolated and/or semi‐isolated northern communities
You are confident and skilled to evaluate the need for further assessment outside of the community if necessary
Mandatory skillsets and additional training requirements and reimbursements will be discussed during interview
