Primary Duties

Provides high quality patient-centered care to patients and their families participating in the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation

Establishes priorities based on individual patients' needs and assigned activities, and adjusts these priorities to manage unanticipated events

Initiates effective communication and works in close co-operation with other members of the health care team to provide optimum patient care and a safe environment that respects the rights of the client

Develops and utilizes appropriate documentation skills to ensure continuity of patient care

Seeks direction, support and guidance from RN in accordance with the defined scope of practice

Establishes and maintains respectful, collaborative, therapeutic and professional relationships

Possesses and continually acquires knowledge relevant to the professional service s/he provides through critical thinking and problem-solving

Shares knowledge and expertise with patients/families and other professionals through a variety of teaching strategies

Other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Diploma in Practical Nursing from an applicable college

Current unencumbered registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Current certification in B.C.L.S.

Certification in ACLS or Coronary Care 1 is preferred

Skills & Abilities

Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to convey effective oral and written clinical information

Ability to participate effectively and appropriately in an interprofessional health care team

Ability to prevent, negotiate, and resolve interprofessional conflict

Demonstrated initiative for continuing education and a willingness to participate in programs related to all aspects of nursing practice to maintain competency
