We are hiring an Engineering Manager for full-time employment. We are a growing startup, so we're looking for someone who can move fast.
Our engineering team is remote, with a hub around Montreal, Canada. Proximity to Montreal is preferred, but not required.
Compensation is competitive. Long-term, successful hires with the company can receive equity.
Responsibilities
1. Team Management and Engineering Activities
Manage Development teams including UI, Infrastructure, Crawling, and Data Science.
Collaborate with Team Leads to plan and direct engineering activities.
Maintain release structure and ensure timely, successful delivery.
2. Strategy Contribution and Culture Building
Contribute to product direction, especially for growth initiatives.
Assist in hiring, mentoring, and establishing a design culture within the company.
3. Product Development and Launch
Collaborate with engineers and PMs for product viability and feasibility.
Manage product launch processes with a focus on messaging and team understanding.
Identify and leverage organizational bottlenecks for efficiency improvement.
Spend time with customers and prospects to inform product vision and roadmap.
4. Technical Product Requirement Documents (PRDs)
Create technical PRDs for clarity between engineering and product teams.
Manage the entire product lifecycle from planning to go-to-market strategies.
5. Roadmap Execution and Team Inspiration
Execute the roadmap and plan for future quarters.
Accountable for the end-to-end product experience and management.
Inspire and support the team in defining and prioritizing product work.
6. Technical Backlog Management
Guide the creation of technical PRDs, manage technical backlogs.
Prioritize new features versus technical debt.
Work with the engineering team to build and improve internal products.
7. Other Responsibilities
Design and implement reliably distributed data pipelines
Implement scalable architectures of machine learning prototype solutions geared towards solving natural language processing, knowledge representation, and natural language generation problems
Create parallelized and/or distributed versions of existing algorithms
Maintain and develop existing machine learning models
Collaborate with research scientists, architects and product management to design and program innovative strategic and tactical solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementation schedules, and adherence to development goals and principles
Gather and determine requirements for new features from internal colleagues
Requirements
5 Years + Experience in a SaaS or package software
3 Years + Experience managing software engineers and partnering with PMs
Full stack & AI experience
Proximity to Montreal preferred, but not required
Preference for candidates who have worked at a startup before
Experience with architecting data-intensive applications
Experience writing software in Python, Scala and/or Java. Experience working with data structures, algorithms and software design
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, tools and environments (such as Apache Beam, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, MapReduce, Flume)
Experience with test-driven development
Experience working effectively with software engineering teams
Mentor others in achieving their career growth potential
