Job Summary

The Supervisor of QC Microbiology provides immediate supervision to a group of Quality Control employees in their successful execution of key quality responsibilities, assigned tasks, and checks work at frequent intervals to ensure that Quality Control objectives and accountabilities are met. A portion of time is normally spent performing individual tasks related to the unit. The Supervisor also serves as a resource of technical knowledge for established assays and exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

1. Accountable for planning, scheduling, allocating, and prioritizing the workload to meet operating requirements in the assigned Quality Control area.
2. Lead laboratory investigations and provide oversight to the content of investigation reports.
3. Use analytical data and/or statistical concepts such as SPC, regression analysis, and product and material trends to understand variables impacting assay and process performance. Investigate aberrant trends and assist with troubleshooting of test procedures.
4. Ensure adherence to quality standards and compliance with the requirements of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
5. Apply expertise to support change and risk management, including application of scientific and technical innovation.
6. Initiate or coordinate the preparation of reports and maintenance of records pertaining to the operation of the work unit in a manner suitable for regulatory submission or inspection.
7. Ensure the reliability and accuracy of the computer databases and paper files.
8. Initiate and coordinate complex projects with other departments and interact with other department personnel to accomplish objectives.
9. Coach employees through problems of diverse scope in which analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Direct QC analysts to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
10. Coach employees in the areas of performance and provide routine guidance and performance feedback.
11. Act as an advisor to the unit and resolve problems to meet business objectives.
12. Provide development opportunities to staff through training, development plans, participation in appropriately challenging activities and applying leadership architect concepts.
13. Work in collaboration with the direct manager, analysts, internal customers, and other cross-functional peers to gain alignment on sound quality decisions.
14. Support workforce diversity, safety, and adherence to company core values.
15. The ability to work days, evenings, or nights may be required.
16. Successful completion of a pre-employment medical and security clearance is required.

    Education, Experience & Skills

    1. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, accompanied by a bachelor’s degree in science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    2. Requires a broad scope of technical knowledge to assist with modelling or design, complex troubleshooting, draft method validation protocols, and/or investigate complex deviations.
    3. Scientific knowledge of standard practices in area of assignment.
    4. Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques.
