p>Scarborough Community Legal Services (SCLS) is a non-profit community legal clinic providing free legal services to low-income residents of Scarborough since 1982, primarily funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We assist individuals and groups in accessing justice and protecting their legal rights, while working to change systems to benefit people living in poverty through legal services, legal education, community development, and law reform.Our legal clinic is governed by an independent 13-member volunteer Board of Directors, elected by community members. The Board ensures the financial health of the organization, develops and adheres to our bylaws and policies, sets the strategic direction, and supervises the Executive Director. We require individuals with strong community connections and community organizing skills.A commitment to social justice and serving low-income individuals and families.Members of marginalized communities—particularly Black, Francophone, and Indigenous communities—and applicants who have used clinic services in the past;Applicants with experience in the non-profit sector, especially in community service and organizing.Board Members must commit time and resources to prepare for and attend monthly board meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month in the early evening.
