The role is performed within Golden Links Lodge’s Nursing Department and is overseen by the unit nurse or a designated supervisor. SHIFT & ROTATION Rotation: EVE Week 1: Tuesday, Saturday Week 2: Sunday, Friday SUMMARY OF FUNCTION Under the direction of the Director of Care or designate, the Health Care Aide performs duties as assigned within Golden Links Lodge Nursing Department. They provide care of residents, ensure safety and compliance with Manitoba Health Standards, and adhere to GLL policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include: Work within the framework of Golden Links Lodge’s Mission, Vision & Values. Respect Residents’ rights at all times. Apply and maintain hygiene, skin integrity, mobility, nutrition and elimination needs. Assist with transfer, positioning and use of mechanical lifts. Support the interdisciplinary team, participate in education of new staff, and maintain accurate documentation. RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Practice: Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting and oral hygiene. Hygiene & Skin Care: Provide tub baths, showers, bed baths, facial shaving, hair, nail and dental hygiene; monitor skin condition and report concerns. Transfer & Mobility: Transferring, positioning and ambulating residents using safe resident handling policies and mechanical lifts. Nutrition: Assist with meals, meal preparation, feeding, and ensure social meal times. Elimination: Provide toileting support, collect specimens, record intake/output, and use designated inseparable products. Safety & Infection Control: Maintain call bell accessibility, respond promptly, use hand hygiene, identify fall risks, and report safety hazards. Support to Nurse: Weigh residents, provide emotional and physical support, assist with admissions and discharges, and assist in care of the body after death. Infection Control & Maintenance: Clean equipment, washing of communal items, wash linens, and segregated laundry inspection. Resident Transport: Transport residents to meals, recreation, hairdresser, church services, and other requested activities. Education & Documentation: Assist new staff or agency personnel, deliver training, and document care delivery on appropriate records. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Recognized Health Care Aide Certificate required or completion of two years of an accepted registered nursing education program. Experience: One year previous experience as a Health Care Aide preferred, experience in a personal care home setting preferred. Personal: Able to carry out duties professionally with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality. Physical and mental health capable of meeting job requirements. Proficient in speaking, reading, writing and comprehending fluent English. Strong interpersonal skills and sincere interest in working with the elderly. Organizational skills and adaptability to changing resident needs. Ability to safely operate required equipment.
