The specialist will lead initiatives to integrate and embed anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity and inclusion principles and practices across all areas of the hospital in alignment with the organization’s vision and values. The strategy aims to cultivate a culture of inclusion and belonging for all people of Southlake, including the community we serve. The DEIA Specialist will support projects, develop resources and tools, provide consultation/advice and work with internal teams to identify, diagnose, measure and dismantle systemic barriers to equity and inclusion.**What you'll be doing:**• Play a critical role in the development, refinement and advancement of the DEIA action plan and objectives that align with Southlake’s Strategic Plan. • Develop, deliver and evaluate DEIA training/workshops for staff and physicians to enhance understanding and awareness. • Co-chair the DEIA committee and participate in relevant hospital and community committees as needed. • Support the development of the Accessibility Working Group and oversee the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. • Research and produce DEIA -related communications materials, including the monthly newsletter • Create and promote activities outlined in the Diversity Calendar of Events, including celebrations and reflections. • Serve as a subject matter expert matter advisor to internal groups on matters of DEIA and the development of Employee Resource Groups. • Review, develop and update organizational policies with a DEIA lens. • Collect, analyze, and interpret DEIA-related data, including employee demographics and program outcomes, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and establish metrics/key performance indicators to measure and report on the DEIA action plan’s progress. • Provide strategic advice and expertise on a range of DEIA and human rights-related topics and issues. • Experience with analysis, research and interpretation of data related to inequities and disparities in health care • Collaborates with internal teams, including People, Culture & Experience, Corporate Communications, and various departments, to integrate DEIA principles into organizational processes and drive strategic initiatives. • Familiarity with equity-focused frameworks such as the Ontario Health Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-racism, Black Health and the First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous frameworks as well as experience in embedding DEIA principles into organizational policies and processes.**What you bring:**• Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline (public health, equity studies, human rights, sociology, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. • Certification and/or enrolment of a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program with an organization such as Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion preferred. • Project management experience is an asset. • Minimum 5 years of experience researching, developing, managing and implementing DEIA, health equity and/ or Human Rights programs and strategies. • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Anti-racism Act. • Demonstrates understanding and awareness of DEIA issues and best practices. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce briefing notes, reports, organizational communications, presentations, and learning materials. • Experience in group facilitation, organizational change management, team dynamics, organizational assessments, and learning. • Experience working with outcome metrics for evaluation purposes. • Experience partnering with individuals and communities that have been historically marginalized and under-serviced by the health system (e.g., LGBTQ2S+, radicalized, Indigenous, low socio-economic status communities, persons with disabilities, etc.). • Demonstrated experience influencing positive changes in the field of inclusion, diversity, equity and social responsibility. • Takes initiative, works proactively, coordinates and manages projects with multiple stakeholders in a complex environment. • Experience working in a healthcare environment is preferred. • Model behaviors that are aligned with the values of Southlake HealthSouthlake Health is fully committed to a culture of belonging and an inclusive environment that encourages every team member to lead within their role, generate innovative ideas that reinforce our mission and goal to create a healthy workplace where our community can thrive.Regular and reliable attendance is an expected requirement of this position.We are committed to a selection process and work environment that is inclusive and barrier-free.
