Job Description: Position Overview: This position reports directly to the Director, Professional Practice as part of the professional practice team and works closely with the Director, Surgery. The Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) works collaboratively with the Operating Room Managers, and clinical teams/committees to coordinate and deliver clinical education AORN program to the EnRoute OR nursing team. The CPL will serves as a Perioperative role model, resource and facilitator, assisting clinical staff in their professional development.

Responsibilities: • Conducts needs assessments to determine staff education needs and set priorities • Makes recommendations and plans education programs to support AORN Perioperative 101 program objectives and evidence-based practice. • Coordinates the development, marketing, delivery and evaluation of interprofessional clinical education services including online and audiovisual holdings • Assumes a teaching role for selected Operating Room program, AORN perioperative 101 • Develops and facilitates clinical orientation program for new hires • Collaborates with clinical OR Managers, CPL, committees and teams to identify learning needs and assists in developing strategies to meet those needs • Assists OR managers and CPLs in addressing performance/competency assessment, develops learning plans to address clinical practice concerns • Supports staff and acts as a resource in identifying and meeting their own learning needs • Coordinates AORN in-class theory program, clinical placements in conjunction with OR Managers and CPL educational institutions • Provides clinical education that includes practical skills training • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing/interprofessional clinical policies and procedures and nursing/interprofessional clinical evidences informed practices • Participates on relevant teams and committees with respect to education • Maintains attendance tracking tools, prepares reports and carries out other administrative duties as required • Keeps up-to-date of current trends in perioperative practice, health care, professional practice, legislation and education • Takes responsibility to maintain personal professional development

Requirements: • Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario • BScN required (Nursing Master’s Degree an asset) • Completion of Perioperative certificate from recognized college • Minimum 5 years recent experience in Perioperative nursing in an acute care setting • Working knowledge of adult learning principles, experience in an educator role • Demonstrated ability to design curriculum • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education • Knowledge of ORNAC standards • CSAO Medical Device Reprocessing Techniques Course • Standard Practical Nursing skills and ability to learn and teach new clinical procedures • Experience with committee work • Knowledgeable with Quality Based Procedures, care pathways and best practices guidelines • Familiar with CNO standards and guidelines • Experience in being a facilitator, demonstrated presentation skills • Proficiency in Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with colleagues and within a team environment • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Self-starter with good planning and organization skills • Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation. • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area. • Demonstrates excellent work performance and attendance record

Asset: • Perioperative CNA certification • Member of RNAO • Membership with the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) • Research and program evaluation skills • Master’s degree
