Job Summary & RequirementsAs an integral member of the Laboratory team the Medical Laboratory Technologist responsibilities include:RESPONSIBILITIESParticipating in technical, professional and quality in-services and educationParticipating in staff and patient experience and feedback initiatives, professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of servicesReading and confirming reading and understanding laboratory policies and procedures through document control softwareForwarding suggestions for policy and procedure improvement or corrections required to the Charge or Team LeaderPerforming laboratory procedures for specific discipline(s) and functions and ensuring the completion of assigned workloadOperating, troubleshooting and maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area; preparing written and electronic reports required to document procedures and test results; participating in teaching, educational, safety and quality improvement programsObserving and understanding hospital policies and proceduresAdhering to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentialityPerforming cross-functional duties, as assigned or requestedPerforming other related duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned, requested, or requiredSUPERVISION/ DIRECTION GIVENProvides technical supervision for Medical Laboratory Assistants in the applicable area, ensuring work is completed in accordance with established policies and ACCREDITATION CANADA - DIAGNOSTICS requirements; provides technical supervision and guidance for Medical Laboratory Assistants and Phlebotomists when requiredRecommends and communicates changes to enhance the efficient and cost‑effective operation of the laboratoryOCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETYSupport Internal Responsibility System by administering RVH Health & Safety policies and procedures, the Ontario Health & Safety Act and regulations and WHMISParticipate in Health & Safety training as requiredProvide a safe working environment and ensure all equipment is evaluated, validated and well maintainedParticipate in Workplace Inspections and hazard identifications, accident/incident investigations; including analysis, risk assessment, and the implementation of corrective measuresSupports Laboratory Safety Representative to evaluate status and maintain full ACCREDITATION CANADA - DIAGNOSTICS safety complianceSuggest Health & Safety items to be discussed at staff meetingsComplete Health & Safety education and training as required that includes job‑specific training and safe work practices; the above responsibilities are not to be considered all‑inclusive; may be assigned other related duties in the interest of efficient operations of RVH or effective patient careSKILLS/ABILITIESDemonstrated knowledge of Ontario Laboratory Accreditation program preferredDemonstrated knowledge of current technologies within the fieldDemonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and professionally with staff, physicians, volunteers, patient families, and visitorsDemonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks at a time in a cost‑effective mannerDemonstrated ability to perform duties independently and as a team member, with high degree of motivation and independent judgmentDemonstrated commitment to excellent attendance and schedule flexibilityDemonstrated excellent conflict resolution and change management skillsDemonstrated strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilityDemonstrated proficiency with keyboarding, Laboratory Information Systems (Meditech preferred), MS Office, internet use and another computer softwareDemonstrated commitment to continuing education and performing mandatory reviewsQUALIFICATIONSEDUCATIONGeneral certification in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized post‑secondary instituteCertification through the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)Registration with the College of Medical laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility requiredExperienceMinimum one (1) year recent laboratory experience in related discipline(s), as required by assigned area, preferredDemonstrated ability to develop skill and knowledge in required areas of the laboratory requiredExperience with current instrumentation/automation in respective area an assetGeneral knowledge of all areas of the laboratory preferredGeneral knowledge of the theory and practices of applicable laboratories procedures and equipment requiredMeditech and LIS knowledge and experience an assetPROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONCurrent registration with the College of Medical laboratory Technologist (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility requiredParticipation in professional committees, networks recommended #J-18808-Ljbffr
