Role: Financial Controller
Division: Weir Minerals
Location: Mississauga, ON (onsite)

Purpose of Role: Reporting to the Regional Controller NA, the Financial Controller works collaboratively with the FP&A team to ensure that all deliverables of the Finance team are completed with high quality in a timely manner. This role works closely with Canadian Operations as well as WBS (Weir Business Solutions).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure appropriate and effective controls are in place and complete all control testing on a rolling schedule.
  2. Lead the internal and external audit for Weir Minerals.
  3. Responsible for all statutory reporting requirements.
  4. Review completed work by WBS and ensure deliverables are completed on time.
  5. Ensure the Finance team works in a productive environment with high levels of communication and transparency.
  6. Perform non-routine, complex accounting assignments involving the application of generally accepted accounting practices and requiring highly developed analytical skills and business acumen.
  7. Actively seek feedback from internal and external stakeholders, implement process improvements.
  8. Ensure that the goals set out on the Finance lean scorecard are monitored and specific action is taken to improve performance.
  9. Participate in the preparation and review of quarterly forecasts and yearly budgets as well as the related analyses and reports.
  10. Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and analysis of financial statements, reports and performance estimates for the Minerals Canada business unit within established deadlines, ensuring all checklists are updated and utilized.
  11. Complete all Group and Divisional monthly close and reporting requirements including monthly flash, MD report and Cognos/TM1 update.
  12. Interpret financial reports for management comparing actual versus projected results and explaining variances.
  13. Prepare financial and economic analysis projects and interpret results as required.
  14. Undertake special analytical studies such as the identification of trends or the evaluation of current control systems.
  15. Ensure all account reconciliations are completed and review key accounts, ensuring analysis is detailed and actions taken as needed prior to end of the month.
  16. Ensure all tax related matters are completed, utilizing third party experts as needed.
  17. Coordinate accounting matters with other departments, locations and divisions.
  18. Other duties as required.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor in Business Administration or Commerce and minimum of eight years of related, progressive experience.
  2. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) / Certified General Accountant (CGA) / Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  3. Experience in cost and general accounting in a manufacturing environment is an asset.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong analytical skills and a significant interest and ability to understand and question what is behind the numbers.
  2. Excellent computer skills along with literacy with Microsoft Excel and Word software are required.
  3. Strong knowledge of SAP is a must.
  4. Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  5. Self-motivated, organized, and attention to detail is a must.
  6. Analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills.
  7. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word and Excel.
  8. Ability to exercise good judgement, tact, and confidentiality in all matters.
