OverviewTo meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking an Intermediate Substation Engineer to join our Power Delivery team, located in our BC offices (Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kelowna or Kamloops). The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise and consulting experience in T&D projects – specific to substations. Projects include greenfield and brownfield developments, high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnections. This role involves close collaboration with clients and stakeholders to understand engineering needs, ensure successful project coordination, and deliver projects on time, within budget, while maintaining quality and safety. You will help bring WSP’s expertise and innovation to support clients, utilities, and communities in the transformation to a new energy future.Be involved in projects with our Power Team and contribute to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. What you’ll doYou will take technical ownership of all aspects of design for high voltage (69kV – 500kV) substation projects, including development of: General Arrangements, Plan Views and Elevation Views, Grounding Plans, Cable Trough/Conduit Plans, Specifications for Major Primary Equipment (transformers, breakers, switches, etc.), Documentation for Design Calculations, Bill of Materials, Construction Sequencing Documentation.Perform studies such as Grounding, Lightning, AC and DC calculations for Station Service and Battery System Sizing, and Bus Fault Stress Analysis.Provide Technical, Procurement, Construction and Active Coordination support.Coordinate efforts with internal and external project team members, with familiarity in identifying coordination needs with transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors.Identify key client interests and drivers and determine key clients in some instances.Act as a technical specialist for system protection and communication; provide consultation and guidance to project teams.Maintain good working relationships with internal groups, material suppliers, contractors, and others affecting project quality, schedule, and cost.Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.Guide and mentor junior engineers. What you’ll bring to WSPBachelor’s degree in Electrical EngineeringRegistration as a P.Eng in your province of residenceMinimum of 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in power systems substation electrical engineering, with familiarity in protection and control, telecomExperience with voltages up to 500 kVProficient with engineering design tools and software (e.g., ETAP, Aspen OneLiner, EasyPower, PSCAD, PSS/E, etc.)Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environmentStrong knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission systems and industry standardsFamiliarity with safety standards, utility codes, and regulatory requirementsExcellent communication, presentation, organizational and writing skills; ability to interface with clients and prepare project design documents including technical design, plan & profile, staking sheets, contracts and specificationsWillingness to travel as needed for project assessments, meetings and on-site support CompensationSalary range (in British Columbia): $91,200 - $125,400The final salary awarded may vary based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, and business needs.
