Responsibilities Lead and oversee a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across BCRTC. Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, municipal requirements, Environment Canada, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards. Collaborate with the Director and stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate safety strategies, programs and data‑driven campaigns. Manage safety and environmental initiatives, projects, and campaigns; oversee training delivery for leaders and staff. Act as the key liaison with regulatory bodies and the Executive/Senior Leadership Team, presenting executive‑level reports on investigations and performance. Lead accident and incident investigations; develop corrective action plans and coordinate with external regulators when required. Oversee data analytics and reporting, setting KPIs and ensuring quality of safety and environmental data. Drive BCRTC’s sustainability and energy management program, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Support training, occupational health, and return‑to‑work processes in partnership with the Training and Occupational Health departments. Manage a team of reporting staff, focusing on coaching, performance management, and professional development. Assist the Director with budgeting, reporting, and engagement with the ESLT and Board of Directors. Qualifications Degree in a safety‑related discipline and 8+ years of progressive experience in safety and environmental management, preferably in transit or rail environments. Advanced knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, and OHS and environmental policies. Advanced communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills to uphold a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Leadership experience managing staff or contractors and leading projects/initiatives. Advanced proficiency in office software (word, excel, presentations). Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is a significant asset. Other Requirements Advanced working knowledge of safety in an operations and maintenance rail environment. Advanced knowledge of regulations, protocols, and legislative terminology related to safety and environment. Advanced knowledge of public transportation modes, infrastructure, and operating systems. Solid problem‑solving skills with advanced analytical capabilities. Excellent prioritizing, organizing, and time‑management skills. Strong leadership skills to manage a team and lead projects. Other Information The applicant must meet the minimum level of qualifications and experience to be invited into the selection process. Interviews will include scenario and behavioral questions. Work schedule: 37.5 hours per week, Resident; predominantly on‑site.
