POSITION: Associate Veterinarian
STATUS: Permanent; Full-Time
SHIFT: 35 hours per week
LOCATION: Penticton Veterinary Hospital - Penticton, BC

About the Position:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Veterinary Services, the Associate Veterinarian delivers the highest quality of medical care and provides exceptional service to our clients (pet guardians) and patients (both pets and shelter animals). This position also advocates for animals and their quality of life, provides education to stakeholders on pet health and animal welfare, and supports practice and organizational goals by engaging in training, mentorship, and professional development.

Perform and interpret laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests, including parasitology, hematology, and urinalysis.Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team.Understand the principles of shelter medicine and behaviour modification, and adhere to BC SPCA shelter medicine protocols when treating BC SPCA shelter animals.Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team about the daily schedule and caseload.Advocate for animals and their quality of life by building strong relationships with clients and other BC SPCA departments.

Qualifications you need to have:

  • Licensed to practice medicine and in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia (CVBC), or the ability to attain licensure to practice in British Columbia before the date of hire.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated abilities in practicing quality veterinary medicine.
  • Strong computer skills to obtain and enter client information and manage diagnostic tests.
  • Commitment to and ability to work safely with and around animals.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English is considered an asset.
