E3 works on high-profile, high-impact projects in jurisdictions that lead clean energy policy, including California, Hawaii, and New York.WorkThe Consultant is a vital contributor to our team and project work. The position assists and/or leads client-facing interactions and helps determine approaches and methods for project tasks. Our consultants direct workstreams within projects and contribute to written reports and papers. They may deliver findings and summaries to customers, make presentations, and respond to questions. Responsibilities may expand to QA/QC, more elaborate investigative tasks, and serving as a technical head on project needs or flagship modeling tools.ResponsibilitiesDevelop PLEXOS production simulation (ST) and/or capacity expansion (LT) models addressing client questions and forecasting future market fundamentals over multiple yearsStrategize modeling approaches and discuss the analysis plan with the PLEXOS modeling team and project leadsGather data from clients and other sources and translate it into accurate model representationsApply QA/QC practices to debug simulation cases, assess results, refine models, and propose additional scenariosTranslate simulation results into clear visual representationsModify existing E3 cases and tools to improve functionality and efficiencyAssist in delivering customer work through modeling, presentations, and writing subsections of reports and papersConduct independent research to produce reasonable solutions, sometimes with incomplete informationDeliver sections of presentations to customers and respond to questionsTrack progress against plan with ongoing communication to the Director or ManagerCapture project learnings and create repeatable outputs for knowledge managementAssist in proposal writing and internal initiatives as neededRequirements1-3 years of experience using PLEXOS for production simulation (ST) and/or capacity expansion (LT)Master's degree or Ph.D. in engineering, economics, computer science, optimization, public policy or related field3-5+ years of related experience in an energy-related fieldDetail-oriented approach to designing models and critically assessing resultsExperience addressing renewable energy and climate change issues and/or relevant academic project workHands-on experience or knowledge in one of our Practice Areas: Climate Pathways and Electrification, Asset Valuation, Transmission, and Markets, or Integrated System PlanningCollaborative mindset and ability to translate technical concepts to broader audiencesOwnership attitude and proactive problem solvingStrong writing and communication skillsPassion for the transition to a low-carbon economyStrong organizational and time management skillsHigh fluency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; programming knowledge is valuedDesire to work in a dynamic office environmentPractice AreasClimate Pathways and ElectrificationAsset Valuation, Transmission, and MarketsIntegrated System PlanningBenefitsBase and bonus commensurate with experience and performanceMedical, dental, and vision insurance plans401(k) with corporate matchFlexible Paid Time Off plus standard company holidaysShort-term and long-term disabilityGroup life insuranceHealth Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending AccountsFitness and wellness discounts and stipendProfessional Development annual stipendHiring Process and TimelineQualified candidates can expect a phone interview, a technical exercise and associated interview, and a final set of interviews.
