Public Safety and Emergency Services is responsible for keeping communities safe and secure, upholding a fair and accessible justice system, and ensuring Alberta is prepared for and resilient to the impacts of disasters by working with partners in law enforcement, justice, health, and social services. The Police Review Commission (PRC) will oversee the police complaints process for all police services in Alberta and will have approximately 150 staff. Following implementation, the PRC will be at the forefront of leading and supporting police services through a significant change in process and philosophy. The Police Review Commission (PRC) is a newly established, arm's‑length oversight body created under the Police Amendment Act (2022). It is responsible for managing complaints and disciplinary proceedings involving Alberta’s police services. As part of this transformative initiative, the PRC is seeking a dedicated Information and Privacy Coordinator to lead and manage privacy and access to information processes. This role is central to ensuring the PRC’s compliance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA), supporting the PRC’s mandate to uphold transparency, accountability, and the protection of personal information. Key Responsibilities Lead intake, tracking, and response to privacy and access to information requests under the POPA and ATIA Acts. Review and redact sensitive documents; prepare formal response letters for applicants and stakeholders. Liaise with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) during investigations and reviews. Develop and deliver privacy training and orientation for PRC staff. Monitor and improve privacy and records management practices to ensure legislative compliance. Collaborate with internal teams, law enforcement agencies, and oversight bodies to ensure secure and lawful information sharing. Qualifications Minimum Requirements University education in Law, Public Administration or Information Management PLUS a minimum of 4 years of experience in privacy and access to information. Equivalency Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Required Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), Access to Information Act (ATIA) and other relevant legislation. Experience managing privacy inquiries, complaints, and breaches, including formal responses. Assets Certification in Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) or similar. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro and secure information handling practices.
