Job Title: Recreation Therapist Program & Department: Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre → Medicine Program → Transitional Care Unit Employment: Temporary, Full-Time (end date 18 January 2027) Union: Non Union Requisition Close Date: 26 November 2025 Salary: $35.76 - $41.81 (NU_05) Job Posting Reason: Temporary Backfill Job Summary & Requirements As the Recreation Therapist you enable patients to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally and function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society. The Recreation Therapist provides programs and services that: Improve and maintain patients’ skills and functional leisure abilities in the areas of physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning Assist patients in utilizing previously acquired leisure skills or acquire new leisure skills appropriate to their limitations and future lifestyle Promote an awareness of the importance of a successful leisure lifestyle Promote knowledge and utilization of leisure resources within the home and community Identify information and resources pertaining to physical and architectural barriers commonly found in the environment Actively involve patients in the community to promote independence when returning to the home environment Job Requirements Four year undergraduate degree Post graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation One to three years’ experience Working with people with disabilities Working with seniors Working with and leading groups Planning special events Working in a team setting Working in a health care setting (charting, medical terminology, implications of disease, etc.) Ideal Candidate Skills Computer skills Counselling/ education skills Group dynamic skills Critical thinking/ problem solving Leadership Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong Interprofessional model of care Equity & Inclusion RVH is committed to recruitment and selection practices anchored in principles of equity and inclusion that contribute to an anti-oppressive, respectful, and culturally safe workplace.
