The Opportunity: Reporting to the President, the Senior Director Indigenous Relations and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for providing leadership and management focusing on advancing Indigenous Education for the entire college and its stakeholders. The Senior Director will manage service and program operations and contribute to further strategic planning and implementation efforts that enhance and evolve Indigenous student achievement and partnership initiatives while leading and supporting research. As well, the incumbent supports the efforts and the vision for the entire College community, to achieve meaningful integration of Indigenous knowledge, cultural traditions, and community into the development of academic programs, applied research projects, and College policies.
The incumbent executes a range of management functions with a special focus on Access, student pathways and business development opportunities. The incumbent fosters relationships internally and externally and supports strategies to attract students to the College. Through proactive planning, the Senior Director organizes and prioritizes tasks to foster excellence within the overall college-program mix as well as ensures a positive reputation that is consistent with the mission and vision of the College. The Senior Director supervises all team members in Indigenous Education.
What you need to be successful:
- A bachelor’s degree in Adult Education or Business Administration
- Master’s degree in a related field preferred (ie. MBA, MSW, etc)
- Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in progressive leadership and management roles
- Well-developed leadership skills
- Excellent team building, interpersonal, communications, decision-making, time-management and planning skills
- Excellent human resource management skills along with conflict resolution and facilitation experience
- Extensive experience managing budgets and sound financial management practices
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with a variety of internal/external contacts at all levels
- Strong commitment to a client centred philosophy
- Proficiency in a First Nations language is considered an asset
- A thorough understanding of and respect for the cultural protocols of First Nations communities in the area is required
- Knowledge of the Ontario College system
- Working knowledge of a variety of software, including MS Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Teams.
Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous persons. Candidates must voluntarily self-identify as Indigenous on their application, the self-identification verification process will be conducted on short-listed candidates, prior to the interview invitation.
Sault College provides an attractive total compensation package, encompassing competitive wages/salaries, a defined benefit pension plan, group insurance benefits, and a variety of employee perks. This is a full-time administrative position. Salary range is a payband 14 and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
