Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team in Toronto

The successful candidate will assist in the design of CBTC components like racks, sub-racks, wayside enclosures, COTS integration, to meet the applicable railway CENELEC and AREMA mechanical and environmental standards.

Key Requirements:
  1. Perform mechanical design using tools like CREO, Solid Edge
  2. Apply the knowledge of manufacturing processes
  3. Corrosion mitigation
  4. Perform mechanical and thermal simulations using industry standard tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, Flotherm and IcePak
  5. Perform vibration analysis including PSD plots
  6. Write and link requirements using appropriate management tools such as DOORs and Polarion
  7. Responsible for working harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the job and in relations with others
  8. Developing junior team members of the department by providing assistance, as required
  9. Occasional travel may be required to customer sites, up to three times per year
Required Skills and Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of diplomas and work experience
  2. 6 to 10 years of experience in industry
  3. Excellent with mechanical design using tools like CREO, Solid Edge
  4. Proficient with mechanical and thermal simulations using industry standard tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, IcePak
  5. Proven knowledge of EMC control (Cabling, Grounding techniques, gasketing, cable passthroughs etc.)
  6. Exceptional knowledge of mechanical material properties including fatigue failure
  7. Superior knowledge of ingress protection for enclosures and familiarity with the different ratings such as IP and NEMA
  8. Familiarity with Validation and Verification testing, especially thermal and vibration testing
  9. Professional verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
  10. Perfected writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
  11. The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work
  12. The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action
  13. Keeping track of progress on all assigned tasks
  14. Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  1. Over 10 years of experience in Railway Signalling industry working with international standards
  2. Expert with mechanical design using tools like CREO, Solid Edge
  3. Expertise with mechanical and thermal simulations using industry standard tools like ANSYS, CREO Advanced Simulation, IcePak
  4. In depth knowledge of shock and vibration principals that impact mechanical designs. Understanding of fatigue and crack propagation
  5. Proven track record in performing failure analysis and assessing or providing proposed improvements to the existing design
  6. Devising and running tests to verify equipment functionality, to verify simulations and for identifying and solving problems
  7. Able to use vibration and thermal measurement tools in lab and at site
  8. Knowledgeable in corrosion mitigation methods and have a good understanding of galvanic corrosion
  9. Reviewing any applicable specifications, standards, rules, contracts etc., for design requirements and ensuring that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken to ensure that designs are compliant with all applicable requirements
  10. Proficient skills and current with the technology of the discipline
  11. Certification: PEO
