Health Care Aide – Alberta Health Services Opportunity This “rural” 88-bed Long Term Care unit is located in the Drumheller Health Center. You are a suitable candidate if you have a strong interest and the required skill set to provide care to the elderly, including those diagnosed with dementia. You will demonstrate genuine interest and respect for our clients. As a member of the nursing care team, along with interdisciplinary staff, you will utilize your knowledge, skills and abilities to competently provide client‑centered care. You will be responsible to provide personal care and assist with activities of daily living according to the client’s care plan. You will assist clients to maximize their optimum level of independence. You will provide emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, friendly, sincere and interacting in a positive & optimistic manner. You will perform health‑care duties within your scope of practice, and per the client’s care plan. Drumheller is situated in a valley, in the Alberta Badlands, 135 km from Calgary, and 160 km from Red Deer. Our Health Care Aide (HCA) Training Program offers an exciting opportunity for you to launch your career as an HCA. No certification or experience is needed. Earn as you learn by completing an online HCA college program within 18 months of hire. AHS funding may be available to cover your tuition. To qualify you must: Be proficient in English. Not need to take off extended periods of time from your coursework. Not have previous health‑related education. Reside in Drumheller or within reasonable driving distance. Apply for a “permanent” HCA position (cannot be temporary or casual). Description As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi‑disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short‑term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities, assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients’ hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient’s mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will assist in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals.
