Role and Facility Information This Hospital is seeking part‑time and full‑time Emergency Medicine Physicians. Constructed in 2001, the facility has 52 acute‑care beds and a 3‑bed ICU, and features a modern design with an indoor atrium. Services include a 24‑hour emergency room, ambulatory care, acute medical‑surgical and psychiatry services, cardiopulmonary, diabetes education, laboratory, medical imaging (CT scanner), nutrition counseling, pharmacy, occupational therapy, SLP, social work, and physiotherapy. Clinical specialists cover anesthesiology, general surgery, urology, geriatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, internal medicine, pediatrics and radiology with a PACS imaging system. The successful candidate will have the option of applying to cover a small number of shifts at our regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo. Academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia (UBC) postgraduate programs and the Island Medical School undergraduate programs is available. It is the gateway to the Pacific Rim communities of Tofino & Ucluelet, Long Beach (Canada’s top surfing destination), and world‑class skiing on Mt. Washington. The community is family‑friendly, with affordable housing, strong public schools and abundant recreational programs for children. Sproat Lake, located just outside the city, provides an ideal location for family homes. Located within a 60‑minute drive from Nanaimo, Port Alberni offers easy access to Vancouver and Victoria while maintaining the charm of a rural community. CPSBC USA certified registration is acceptable.
