The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is the largest Faculty in Athabasca University and offers a wide range of online courses and programs in the areas of education, humanities, interdisciplinary studies, and social sciences.

The Position:

Indigenous Studies in the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies is housed within the largest Faculty, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, at Athabasca University. This is a full-time position located in Alberta.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach new courses, based on their research expertise and as determined by the needs of the program. Evidence of teaching excellence is required, and experience in supervising graduate students will be considered an asset. Commitment to exploring and advancing the use of contemporary digital technologies in online teaching and learning is preferred. All faculty members are expected to participate in administrative committees, including those pertaining to centre, faculty, or university-wide endeavors.

The successful candidate will have a completed PhD in Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Governance, Indigenous Leadership and/or Indigenous Education; a robust research portfolio; A minimum of five years of relevant academic or professional experience in Indigenous Studies and in Indigenous nations and communities or a combination of relevant teaching, industry, and management experience is an asset. Knowledge of an Indigenous language is desirable.

  • A letter of application
  • Evidence of research effectiveness including a published article
  • One or more research outputs (formal or informal knowledge dissemination that you want to highlight based on the CV)
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, ideally a teaching dossier including a teaching philosophy statement, teaching or course evaluations if available, and artifact of teaching initiatives (e.g., websites, videos, podcasts)
  • Names and contact information of three referees
